We are actually pretty close to a point where we will be able to start fixing stuff and priming. Maybe another weekend worth of work paint removal. The house was fairly well cared for by its previous owners, but much of the magic of a this architectural style has been lost through the years. Because there are other people I'm sure in our position, I wanted to write a blog about our adventures in paint, mortar and wood, share our experiences, our successes and failures along the way. A lesson learned - Installing lights in a hutch. The cabinet is solid wood and appears to be hand crafted - Gustav Stickley would have been proud. We strapped into the back of the pickup and brought it home. The lights worked great, except that I quickly realized the lights only lit the top shelf, as the shelving was wood, not glass, and didn't let the light through the rest of the unit. Oops! Rear screened in porch. Okay, so here's the latest before and after photo batch, these were taken of the rear/side corner screened in porch. It took a lot longer than a thought, and a few hundred dollars in lumber, paint and screening material, but it was all well worth the effort. You can read all about it starting right here. For some time I've been wanting to create a brick. Paver sidewalk going from the driveway and garage to the back door of the home. Of course I wanted to finish the screened in porch first - since the sidewalk wraps around this feature - and that project is almost completed. This will probably be one of the next projects on my to do list as I already have the paver and recently picked up some stone dust that's sitting in a pile next to the garage. Like many older homes, our craftsman style bungalow didn't have any insulation in the structure when we purchased it several years ago, unless of course you count the newspapers from the 1920's stuffed into the sill above the foundation in the basement.
