Burnhead offers two, twin bedded, en-suite rooms that are south facing, light and airy with lovely views over the surrounding countryside. In your room you will find tea and coffee making facilities, a television and DVD player, and hair dryer. There will be other drinks available in our kitchen fridge. If you are arriving in the area by train we can arrange to pick you up and bring you to Burnhead. Our aim is to always use fresh, local produce. Even our water comes from a local natural spring.

We have two twin en suite rooms. Our Bed and Breakfast rate is 40.00 per person per night*. For guests travelling alone there is no single occupancy supplement. During busy periods of the year for guests travelling together who wish to have a room each there is Single Occupancy Supplement of 10 per person per night. Burnhead is owned by Christine and David Hunter. Christine was a district nurse for 24 years and David was a childrens' advocate after a career in teaching. We both retired recently to concentrate on the bed and breakfast. We bought Burnhead in September 2006 and decided to continue running it as a small bed and breakfast. It has proved to be a very enjoyable and rewarding experience and we have really appreciated the positive feedback from our guests. See some of the comments left by our previous guests.

It's been a year since I first started blogging my way along Hadrian's Wall, that's a lot of words and photographs shared. Looking back I see that last year was a much better year, weather wise for photographs. I can't remember the last sunrise I was up for although the last thing I do each night before I switch off the computer is check the Metcheck site to see what the weather will be for the next day.

From Gilsland, it's only an hours drive to Keswick and the north Lakes, so when the weather looked promising I set my alarm and headed off to Castlerigg Stone Circle. And knew where the sun would be rising and after an easy drive down the M6 I arrived at Castlerigg. Castlerigg Stone Circle panorama ( click to see it at full size). Saw a couple photographing the boats with the light catching Catbells behind and not wanting to impose I went further along towards Friar's Crag. Derwentwater below Friar's Crag.
