Not Reading On the Bus: December 2013
http://notreadingonthebus.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Not Reading On the Bus. A Late Starter in Edinburgh. Thursday, 12 December 2013. The difference a day makes. The past few weeks in Edinburgh, as if to offer recompense for the advancing winter darkness, we have had day after day of technicolour Turner sunsets and the sort of Rococo dawns that cry out for a few artfully placed putti—fat little boys lolling about on the tender pink clouds wondering if they should cut down on the carbs. When I staggered aboard there were at least twice the number of people ...

Getting There and Back Again. Mostly, riding the bus.and other thoughts on alternatives to one person in a car. Monday, June 28, 2010. Bus Buskers and Food Vendors.Bus Fun in Mexico. Not only were there lots of buses within the city, but it was easy and cheap to travel by bus through the countryside, to outlying towns. We made three day trips by bus to Tequila, Teuchitlan and Chapala. We seemed to be the only American tourists on the buses there. Everyone seemed quite used to these vendors and buskers.

Getting There and Back Again. Mostly, riding the bus.and other thoughts on alternatives to one person in a car. Sunday, May 30, 2010. The Passenger by Art Brut. Be sure and check out the youtube video. There just aren't that many songs out there about public transportation! Http:/ www.youtube.com/watch? I'm a determined passenger. I never learnt to drive. But don't worry, I'm not asking for a ride. Some people hate the bus. Not me, I can't get enough. Some people live in the fast lane. I don't take a book.

Getting There and Back Again: September 2009

Getting There and Back Again. Mostly, riding the bus.and other thoughts on alternatives to one person in a car. Wednesday, September 23, 2009. After days and days and days of rain, our fair city was experiencing sunshine! But nothing could turn our frowns upside down. We weren't particularly happy, but we weren't fired up either. We were quite a contrast from the unhappy lot that rode a #9 bus one day last week. I said, "maybe twenty minutes". Oh, but that's not his fault, he was quick to respond. I do f...

Not Reading On the Bus: A tale of two cities: not reading on the bus in London
http://notreadingonthebus.blogspot.com/2013/03/a-tale-of-two-cities-not-reading-on-bus.html
Not Reading On the Bus. A Late Starter in Edinburgh. Sunday, 24 March 2013. A tale of two cities: not reading on the bus in London. Hipster heartlands. Profitable for the pioneers, infuriating for tardy trend-spotters coming to the party a little too late, a disaster for the generations whose children must join a new diaspora to ever further flung suburbs in order to afford a corner of their own. 8216; But now he does not know how long he will be able to stay, with rent and rates going up every day. ...

Not Reading On the Bus: What's black and white and wrong all over?
http://notreadingonthebus.blogspot.com/2013/04/whats-black-and-white-and-wrong-all-over.html
Not Reading On the Bus. A Late Starter in Edinburgh. Tuesday, 16 April 2013. What's black and white and wrong all over? A few weeks ago I heard a news item as I rode the number 42 over the King George IV Bridge, saying that Scots scientists are creating genetically modified chickens whose eggs could hatch into any number of birds: ducks, blue tits, swans. Were invented. My old friend James Clerk Maxwell. He of the delightful statue at the end of George Street next to St Andrew’s Square, was a natur...

Not Reading On the Bus: December 2012
http://notreadingonthebus.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Not Reading On the Bus. A Late Starter in Edinburgh. Friday, 7 December 2012. Not reading on the boat in Burma. Our comfortable little boat has (aside from seven cabins, galley, wheelhouse, dining room and afterdeck), a pink refrigerator and twelve maroon plush wooden deckchairs of a peculiar design that resembles a cross between a preying mantis and a snapping crocodile (you get in and out at your peril), from which to watch the world pass by. At every stop we have made we are quickly greeted by officia...
