Caffeinated Autism Mom: My experience with homelessness

http://www.caffeinatedautismmom.com/2013/09/my-experience-with-homelessness.html

Friday, September 13, 2013. My experience with homelessness. Never in my life did I expect to welcome a homeless man into my home to temporarily live with my family, but here we are. For purposes of this blog, I’m going to call this man Jester because he’s a bit of a goofball. In the short time Jester has been with us, he has taught me a lot. First let me make a clarification, because I know you are wondering why we would make this kind of a choice. Are they trying to manipulate? I firmly believe that ev...

Caffeinated Autism Mom: July 2013

http://www.caffeinatedautismmom.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 29, 2013. Did Daddy Have Cancer? Just before we left our house to take a walk, I had been watching a documentary on Netflix called “Dying to Have Known” about cancer treatments and whether or not the Gerson therapeutic approach can improve health and cure cancer. It was interesting to me because of my husband’s experience with lymphoma. Back when our boys were very little. And Dr. Burzynski. Monkey interrupted us and asked who we were talking about. 8220;Oh. Wait… What? 8220;Yes, Daddy was s...

Friday, November 30, 2012. Book Review and Giveaway: Easy to Love but Hard to Raise. Have you finished your Christmas shopping yet? Well, today I’m trying to help you out a little bit with that. I have a book that is perfect to give to your extended family members who maybe need a little insight about special needs. Or, you can keep it as a nice gift for yourself as a reminder that you are not alone. Books, and may even have a slight. Problem with them - you should see all the books in my office…. There ...

Caffeinated Autism Mom: December 2013

http://www.caffeinatedautismmom.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 20, 2013. Making the world better. Then, it seemed that the proverbial clouds parted. What started out seemingly dreary, turned out to be about as good as any day could have been. We had some discussion about the nuts of bolts of this kind of vision for the future, and it all comes down to thinking about what your dream is. What is the big picture? What do you want to accomplish? How are you going to work to make the world better for the thing you are most passionate about? When the boys...

Caffeinated Autism Mom: March 2013

http://www.caffeinatedautismmom.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Monday, March 18, 2013. Inclusion vs. Segregation. This topic has been coming up a lot lately for me. It’s relevant in schools, in families, in circles of friends, and just in living life with a child that has special needs in a world that doesn’t always understand or tolerate them. It’s the argument between how to keep our kids in a safe and appropriate environment, and how to balance that with living in the real world. Sometimes you have to be willing to provide an impromptu autism awareness lesson for...

Wonder Boy: June 2011

http://littlewonderboy.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Friday, June 3, 2011. Things I like about my husband:. He still wakes up early with the kids every other morning and gives them their bath every other night. It's my understanding that many dads don't do this, and I can tell you- it rocks. His default emotion is joyful/content. He is boyishly charming in his enthusiasm for Texas Longhorn football, and I get to cash in on that with season tickets and trips to Dallas for TX/OU. He'd rather read than watch TV (which gives me free reign over the DVR). Look M...

Jive Momma: September 2011

http://jivemomma.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html

Monday, September 12, 2011. I, like many others with kids—especially kids wish special needs, am always on the look out for developmental progress. I celebrate even tiny steps, examining them with a microscope, if necessary, and use them refill my piggy bank of hope, or relieve some of my anxiety, or just generally provide reassurance that what I see overall is progress, not regression. To try to assert an individual identity at his age. But I had no idea where to buy such a chain. We were at the mall ye...

If you want me I’ll be in the bar”. 8212; Joni Mitchell, A Case of You. An email I sent this morning:. November 14, 2011, 7:35 am. To: Just about every therapist and teacher J has ever worked with. Jive Momma: August 2011

http://jivemomma.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 29, 2011. No Shame in Asking. I’m not very good at asking for help. I don’t ask often, and almost never for help that I really, really, can’t do with out (I’d hate for someone to feel pressured). I find a way. I let my own work go undone or just do everything half-assed or late, or not at all. Asking for help is a struggle. If there is any sort of negotiation, I back out if I can, and I sure won’t ask again. It’s not out of spite, at least it’s not always. Coincidentally, the next block ov...

Caffeinated Autism Mom

Friday, March 28, 2014. 1 in 68. 2 of 2. If you are an autism parent, I'm sure you saw the massive social media frenzy with yesterday's announcement from the CDC. Their new rates of autism are 1 in 68. Well, sort of. The numbers were accurate 4 years ago. If you were 8 years old. And, if you lived in 1 of 11 test site areas. The rest of us out there were not included in those numbers. Like my boys (who were too young). And like my entire State (which was not one of the test sites). For SO MANY reasons!
