Wednesday, November 10, 2010. What We Eat, Part II. It's been a few weeks since I've given any real consideration to writing. After all, the last thing I want to do after a nice long day of breaking English into tiny words, sentences, and grammar labels is write something original of my own. It would be much simpler [is] blogger came with a [est] of questions and answers, much like the classes I teach. Therefore, back to food we go! Let's discuss something I love to eat: the lunch box. If you pardon my e...

Caitlin Takes Taiwan: October 2010
http://caitlintakestaiwan.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 28, 2010. Out of respect for my children, their parents, and ultimate human privacy, you will not be able to see pictures of my P1 children dressed as dinosaurs, Super Mario, a lion, Belle, a fairy, a creepy shiny costumed man, a penguin and a pumpkin. Instead, I will describe to you how to throw your very own Taiwanese Halloween. 4 Go trick-or-treating, but only at school, and while at school, only go to one classroom, thus making the actual treating time more efficient. Less candy...

Caitlin Takes Taiwan: July 2011

Wednesday, July 20, 2011. Waiao Beach.Looks Like Hawaii, Drier Than BYU. Beach weekends are the best, especially when you're looking into the future (like me) and seeing no beach weekends. The Czech Republic is landlocked and cold, and will not be so inviting for tanning. Not like I tan anyway, so no huge issues. Beachside temple of gorgeousness. We were luck enough to be recommended a tiny, unknown beach called Waiao. Only 3 hours from Taoyuan? How did we not know about this sooner? Waiao is awesome bec...

Caitlin Takes Taiwan: March 2011

Tuesday, March 22, 2011. Light Speed to Hualien. At last, a moment to freely wiggle my fingers across the keyboard to regail you with some Taiwan tales. It is, of course, Saturday, and I did, of course, work today- selling my soul and Caucasian appeal to prospective new parents- and it is, of course, another dreary Winter day. It seems like bad weather makes the roads even more unsafe. Go hiking? A fed Caitlin is a tolerable Caitlin. Hualien: the East Coast of Taiwan. So at the bright hour of 6AM, we hop...

Caitlin Takes Taiwan: June 2011
http://caitlintakestaiwan.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, June 9, 2011. The Hawaii of Taiwan. Or is it the Hawaii of China? The Hawaii of Japan? Oh heck, it's an island (or collection of), it's tropical, it's hot, and I give this weekend destination 4 out of 5 GOLDEN CAITLIN APPROVAL CUPCAKES. I think it's time we moved on from stars and thumbs and embrace what really matters: baked goods. And I thought Taiwan was all smokestacks and milk tea waste! James and I have been trying to get away for a while, so we booked tickets to Penghu l. Oh yeah, wild g...

Caitlin Takes Taiwan: February 2011

Monday, February 28, 2011. Live From Taiwan: The OSCARS! And coming to you live.9:00AM from my television - the Oscars. It's Monday and I'm seated comfortably in my second hand red chair, about to enjoy all the goodness that Hollywood has to offer. No Blue Monday here! As with you, I'm sure, many questions pop into my head when I watch this extravagant annual evening. Here are mine:. Why does Christian Bale sound like an Aussie and look like Wolverine? Identity crisis. He really does think he's Batman.

Caitlin Takes Taiwan: September 2010
http://caitlintakestaiwan.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Saturday, September 25, 2010. What We Eat, Part I. Question: What do you eat in Taiwan? Answer: Anything I frickin' want. It is ridiculously easy to eat three-ten square meals a day in Taiwan, not only because all townships like TaoYuan have a person/restaurant ratio rivaled only by New York City, but because it costs peanuts to eat deliciously, to eat well, and to eat diversely. Let's turn to the photos for evidence:. Breakfast of Champion (Teachers). At least it prevents a hunger meltdown*. This partic...

Caitlin Takes Taiwan: The Dentist and the Swimming Pool
http://caitlintakestaiwan.blogspot.com/2011/05/dentist-and-swimming-pool.html
Sunday, May 22, 2011. The Dentist and the Swimming Pool. Sometimes living in Taiwan feels like living on the bottom of the ocean, sometimes it feels like living in a circus, and sometimes, it's just like living at home. Take for example, the swimming pool. James and I got a hankering for a swim two weeks ago and found several locations on the internet to check out. It turned out that our first choice was, TADA! Lap swimming at a pool in Taiwan is a fashion parade. Wow-wow-wee-woo-woo: floral tankini.

Monday, December 27, 2010. The Fire Chicken and Asian Driving Stereotypes Confirmed: Merry Christmas! You probably have been clicking your Reload button on the Caitlin Takes Taiwan webpage for weeks now, wondering when the darn title would change to something new. Well, international fans, the time has come: December in Taiwan. The past month has been marked by two significant events: the holidays and my scooter accident. You got in a scooter accident? It's like C3PO being dismembered by a Wookie. So we ...
