Other Interests - Caitlin Syme - Palaeontology PhD Student - Taphovenatrix: Dinosaur Taphonomy PhD

http://www.caitlinsyme.com/other-interests.html

Archaeology is probably my second favorite hobby after anything related to palaeontology. As a kid, I was always jealous of other kids who grew up in ancient farming landscapes in the UK and Europe. Plus, they had all the dinosaurs! Currently I'm plowing my way through all 18 series of Time Team, and having reached Series 8 my interest hasn't waned yet. I am a huge fan of video and PC games, mainly RPGs with an FPS element. Favourites that spring to mind include:. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I've been l...

Fossil README: Dinosaurs and Other Mesozoic Reptiles of California. I've created a new segment on this blog: Fossil ReadMe. Ever noticed the 'readme.txt' files that always accompany newly installed software? If you read it, you'd find useful information helping you understand the software you just installed. The first installment of Fossil ReadMe is:. Dinosaurs and Other Mesozoic Reptiles of California, by Richard P. Hilton. I've been reading a copy of ' Dinosaurs and Other Mesozoic Reptiles of California.

Robert Boessenecker, of the blog The Coastal Palaeontologist. Has compiled a wonderful list of marine taphonomy papers covering the last 5 years. When one comes from an auxiliary discipline, it's easy to miss some of the more recently published, relevant articles in marine vertebrate taphonomy. So, to help out anyone with an interest in the preservation of marine vertebrates - here's a (hopefully) comprehensive list of publications from the past 5 years that you may not have noticed. http://www.caitlinsyme.com/news-and-updates/update-overseas-shenanigans-and-phd-shenanigans

Update: overseas shenanigans and PhD. shenanigans. Just a quick update:. There's been a bit of radio silence on this blog as of late, due to my being overseas and attending a couple of conferences (Digital Specimen 2014, and SVP 2014. Both held in Berlin and hosted by the Museum für. Naturkunde). I was also working on my PhD while overseas, and feeling guilty any time I wanted to work on something other than my PhD (e.g. this blog). Think forensic science or CSI for fossils, and you're on the right track!

Writing, Fast and Slow. How to get into conferences for free →. Shut Up And Read. Posted by Helen Kara. I loved my writing retreat over the last two weeks, but it’s left me feeling a bit unbalanced. No, not like that! I had an interesting discussion on Twitter last week with Inger Mewburn. Aka @thesiswhisperer) and Annika Coughlin. I think perhaps another reason is that reading is hard to quantify. You can say ‘I’ve read this article today’, but have you read every word? Did you understand it all? I&#821...

Caitlin's Wish | Inspiring carers worldwide.

Pharmacies as the frontline to identifying carers. December 10, 2014. What a fantastic idea by the Carer’s trust! Originally posted on CarersBlog. I’m working on a pilot scheme. At Carers Trust that aims to identify ‘hidden carers’ when they go into pharmacies to use their services. When I read the job description and first heard the expression ‘hidden carers’ I was a bit worried. Who was hiding these carers? How do they get away with it? It hardly seemed fair. October 17, 2014. A part of the great Dr. Hessler's honors comp class. Where I’m From. Where I’m From, In One Line. April 24, 2012. You can find my full “Where I’m From” poem from the beginning of the year on it’s page in my blog. Why do I love dirt roads so much? April 23, 2012. I had soooooo much fun with the visiting AUM class! Monday we ...

Monday, July 4, 2011. That is the sound of Fireworks. I do this cheer often with my Kindergartners. We say "Boom"(clap hands) "Ch" (shoot hands up in the air) "Aw" (separate hands and wiggle fingers down to your sides) My kids love it, or maybe just me, but we do it a lot. I'm annoyed. I just wrote an awesome (at least I thought) blog about my weekend, but my computer shut down before I saved it.shit. I can't wait to watch fireworks with my own boys.when they are older of course.
