cake and cup

It has been a really, really long time. I gave up here, stopped spending so much time on the computer (major plus), then eventually wanted to get back into blogging, started a new blog, gave up on that, and then over coffee this morning I browsed back through these old posts. I realized what a nice space I'd created here, a place of simple honesty and shared moments. And I wanted to come back. Links to this post. A long, long break! Between writing, music, and baking, I'm feeling pretty satisfied lately.

cake and cup: a little break

http://cakeandcup.blogspot.com/2011/09/little-break.html

A break, a vacation, is just what a person needs sometimes. I took a vacation when my mom and brother flew in, and we went, with the kids, to the beach together. It was wonderful! I also took a break from any sort of writing, which felt good at first, but now I feel malnourished. The most exciting news of this week is Finn's third birthday, coming right up on Thursday. He has requested a strawberry cake, so I am on the hunt for the perfect recipe. Are you taking a little break from anything? I hope your ...

cake and cup: February 2011

http://cakeandcup.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

I've been quiet here lately, but I'm just enjoying life and working out some thoughts. The weather is slowly warming up and the days are becoming brighter. I've never been a fan of Valentine's Day, but I'm beginning to warm up to it. After all, between a husband who surprises me with flowers and my favorite dark mint chocolate and my two tiny valentines, what's not to love? Links to this post. Here's a great article. About the disease in general. And here's a wonderful one. Links to this post.

cake and cup: heart of writing

http://cakeandcup.blogspot.com/2011/10/heart-of-writing.html

Writing practice knows this, knows we are not our thoughts, but lets the thoughts, visions, emotions run through us and puts them on the page. Writing is the crack through which you can crawl into a bigger world, into your wild mind." -Natalie Goldberg. What sorts of treasures are you enjoying these days? This fabulous, cool, good-smelling weather is the BEST! Enjoy your walks with your littles before theyre old enough to zoom off ahead of you on their big bikes with their hair flowing out behind them.

cake and cup: April 2011

http://cakeandcup.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

The life I want. My neighbor Sara and her partner went to help with chainsaws the next day, and left their kids with me. Another friend. Whose house was blessedly left standing but who had 8 trees in her yard fall, also dropped her kids off with me that day. I spent all day playing with six kids, making sandwiches, putting babies down for naps, and generally enjoying myself. As the day ended and the kids cleared out, Josh and his boys came into town. cake and cup: May 2011

http://cakeandcup.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

For anyone wondering about the project I was rambling on about in the last post. Here are the long and short of it. The long: a book. The short: writing every day. The dream that I have is to write. It is also the very core of who I am, though I think I've been in denial for most of my life. As a child, I loved writing. I tore off covers of books and filled them with stories of fairies, forests, and so on. I wrote about world peace! What are you unearthing these days? Links to this post. So much of what ...

Food Eaten: September 2012

http://foodeatenlifelived.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Monday, September 10, 2012. Lately, the only things I've been cooking for myself are salads. So I'm not so much cooking as chopping and combining. You see, I've got this new job. That involves lots and lots and lots of cooking. I'm spending 40 hours of my week up on my feet cooking away. Sometimes it's really hard, but mostly it's just great. I've gotten over the fear that they accidentally hired the wrong person and am trying to make as few mistakes as possible. Links to this post. Diary of a Locavore.

Living the Lay Life. Reflections from the spiritual path. and other musings. Monday, January 16, 2012. An idea has sprung forth! A marvelous, inspiring, exciting idea! Speaking on the phone the other evening with Rita, we got onto the topic of her art. I'd noticed on her deviant art page. The end-product could be either a blog we keep in which we update a weekly 'art speak' creation. or we save all of our work and put it together in a book. I think we should shoot for both! Living the Lay Life: August 2011

http://jamie-condon.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Living the Lay Life. Reflections from the spiritual path. and other musings. Friday, August 26, 2011. We finally had our belated honeymoon, a trip we nearly put off doing all together because of financial considerations. I'm grateful we didn't let money concerns stop us. We discovered a world of adventure together, learned how to rely on one another, trust one another, guide one another. A gentle quietness grew in us that gave way to a terrific, much needed calm and peacefulness. By mid-afternoon the fog...

Living the Lay Life. Reflections from the spiritual path. and other musings. Monday, February 6, 2012. Like a bird on a wire, like a drunk in a midnight choir. I have tried in my way to be free. Like a worm on a hook, like a knight from some old-fashioned book. I have saved all my ribbons for thee. How does it happen that two strangers pass with just gentle swipes of the shoulder, and one keeps steady while the other's heart leaps as if in the midst of danger? Next time, next time I'll be ready. I go to ...

Living the Lay Life: June 2012

http://jamie-condon.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Living the Lay Life. Reflections from the spiritual path. and other musings. Sunday, June 10, 2012. For Vesak, I journeyed on a 20-mile river hike in the North Georgia mountains. The moon was full but being far down in the mountain valley I never caught a glimpse. Instead, there were snails and snakes, night creatures and bears not far afoot. I took along with me Andy Karr's book Contemplating Reality. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Fat of the Land. The Mindful Moment Meditation.

Living the Lay Life. Reflections from the spiritual path. and other musings. Tuesday, December 13, 2011. Words have come back to me, marching foreword, onward, with a mission! Determinedly. Demandingly. Commanding my attention. It's as if the tiny slice of time that I have between now and next semester has opened up a flood gate I've been thirsting after for years. All at once. Here and now. Is it because she has been there, pounding at the door, herself? Alone in my car. Imagening them as my audienc...
