Saturday, 25 October 2014. Prairie had come into the fields and the orchards again and there were sunflowers growing in the road between the ruts. Marilynne Robinson, Gilead. Look forward to hearing Marilynne Robinson talk about her new novel Lila. At the Sheldonian in Oxford next month. If any book bloggers are going do let me know and maybe we can meet for a coffee - or something stronger! There is a gentle homespun humour in Gilead. We know that she is the second wife of minister John Ames and mother ...

Our Quiet Life In Suffolk - making the savings last until pension time. Recipes from my Suffolk Kitchen. Tuesday, 30 June 2015. How did I forget Hay-on-Wye. You know I did a list the other day of places we want to visit if we get the opportunity, I forgot Hay-on-Wye. How did I do that? Continuing on the book theme, one of the 50p books I picked up from a car-boot sale a couple of weeks ago was this. Titty becomes Tatty as BBC rewrites classic". I hope everyone further inland is surviving the heat wave, h...

Our Quiet Life In Suffolk - making the savings last until pension time. Recipes from my Suffolk Kitchen. Monday, 31 August 2015. Goodbye Summer - why did you leave so soon? The last few days of the month have been very Autumnal and most evenings we've needed the light on by 7.30pm, there's been quite a lot of rain too and when it wasn't raining it was grey. I've even abandoned shorts for leggings on a couple of days and we've lit the Rayburn for hot water again. We picked all the greengages - just 3lb - ...

Off the beaten page: lesser-known British women writers 1910-1960. Tuesday, August 4, 2015. Reading diary: ELINOR M. BRENT-DYER, RITA COATTS. ELINOR M. BRENT-DYER, The School at the Chalet. 1925) and Jo of the Chalet School. Gradually, considering how many other authors and books I'm always trying to read at the same time) work my way forward in the series. Our Quiet Life In Suffolk - making the savings last until pension time. Recipes from my Suffolk Kitchen. Monday, 10 August 2015. Last week and the weekend. It was only when Angela pointed out that I had two books the same in my Library book photo that I noticed - not sure how that happened. I'll return one to Leiston library to get it back into circulation. Then our farmer friend arrived to collect the grass topper and someone else called in to pick up campsite info. And here we are round to Monday again...

Planet Joan: April 2015

About Books and Animals and Everything Else. Wednesday, April 22, 2015. Falling in Love - Donna Leon. Donna Leon is back! I love the Commissario Brunetti series, but I haven't really enjoyed the last few books. I think it's because they dealt with political or social issues that don't particularly interest me. I did admire Beastly Things because Leon showcased slaughterhouses, and animal welfare is something I fight for. Posted by joan.kyler. Labels: Commissario Guido Brunetti. Thursday, April 16, 2015.
