The heart of Melakwa is not in the camp It’s on the trails and up the Mountain. Our playground is BIG! Scouts have a range of hikes available and suitable for the youngest Scout AND the challenge-craving older Scout. Take the trail to the crater of Little Belknap and rappel down into the crater. Camp Melakwa is nestled in the middle of two Oregon wildernesses the Three Sisters and the Mt Washington Wilderness Areas. Mostly a sub-alpine ecology, it is unique to the higher elevations and a paradise for the nature lover. Be sure to bring your camera. What would a Summer camp be without a waterfront? In the clear, clear water you can see the bottom 20-30 feet down from anywhere in the lake. So can the sun. The lake becomes warmer as the bottom absorbs the rays and transfers them back to the water. Swimming, canoeing, rowing, lifeguarding and snorkling are offered every day. Bring your fishing rod as Melakwa Lake is stocked with legal trout and even a few trophy size Rainbows. Trolling, spin-casting and fly fishing are all productive.
