Trip Report - Cape Town Pelagics - 18 January 2015. 3 Albatross species, Long-tailed Jaeger, Great-winged Petrel, Great and Flesh-footed Shearwater, Spectacled Petrel, Parasitic and Pomarine Jaeger. We were soon at the iconic Cape Point where early morning sunlight really made for some great photographs. Shortly after the point, we encountered a Parasitic Jaeger. And our first White-chinned Petrels. For the day. As we progressed outwards toward the trawling grounds we started seeing Cory's Shearwaters.

Trip Report - Cape Town Pelagics - 11 April 2015. Manx Shearwater, 4 species of albatross, over a thousand Great Shearwater, and Northern Giant Petrel in beautiful pelagic birding conditions. We departed Hout Bay harbour aboard a Cape Town Pelagics trip with Seth Musker, our trip leader and Jurgen, the skipper. Conditions were wonderfully calm, though chilly and rather misty. A few birds emerged as ghostly figures from the mist, materialising as Swift Terns. Powering purposefully low over the swell.

Trip Report - Cape Town Pelagics - 17 May 2015. 5 albatross species including a juvenile. Black-bellied Storm-petrels, a Spectacled Petrel. Antarctic Prions, both Southern and Northern Giant Petrels. Amongst the normal coastal species. The great light on the iconic Cape Point called for a quick photo shoot of this iconic landmark. As we headed out to the deep we were accompanied by a 15 knot wind blowing at our backs. We were soon enjoying better views of White-chinned Petrel. Next came Cory's Shearwater.

Trip Report - Cape Town Pelagics - 24 January 2015. 4 Albatross species, Parasitic and Arctic Jaeger, Great-winged and Northern Giant Petrel, Sabine's Gull and Great Shearwater. African Black Oystercatcher and African Penguin on the coast. It was only at about 3 miles after the point when the sea started to flatten out a bit. We also started getting ever increasingly better views of White-chinned Petrel. As well as some Sooty Shearwaters. At about 10 miles from the point, we saw our first Shy Albatross.

Trip Report - Cape Town Pelagics - 18 October 2014. Black-bellied Storm-petrel, Indian and Atlantic Yellow-nosed Albatross, both species of Giant Petrels, Subantarctic Skua amongst others. The sunrise on the 18th October was almost idyllic, after strong winds off Cape Point the night before. There was a calm sea and almost no wind as we set off across False Bay on board a Cape Town Pelagics trip with Dalton Gibbs the guide on board. In the harbour were the usual Kelp Gulls. We found a lone Sandwich Tern.
