This blog chronicles the high's and low's of the Cape Gauntlet competition. It's not for the faint-hearted. It's not for those who have to get home to warm slippers. Cape Gauntlet: February 2006

http://capegauntlet.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_archive.html

This blog chronicles the high's and low's of the Cape Gauntlet competition. It's not for the faint-hearted. It's not for those who have to get home to warm slippers. And maybe, maybe we'll come and get you . . . Tuesday, February 28, 2006. In the interests of creating some clarity around what we may, or may not, do to that unlucky band of masochists who call themselves "Gauntleteers", here are the rules. We may make up some new ones as we go along, but this seems enough for now. Can you handle it? 3 The ...

Cape Gauntlet: October 2006

This blog chronicles the high's and low's of the Cape Gauntlet competition. It's not for the faint-hearted. It's not for those who have to get home to warm slippers. And maybe, maybe we'll come and get you . . . Sunday, October 08, 2006. But the forecast was probably threatening our ability to launch the field - usually a strong upper wind will cause a blow-out (high wind and severe turbulence) at Worcester. And the we thought this would likely be before lunchtime. An OLC variant task was set wit...The b...

Cape Gauntlet: Easterlies can be rough!

http://capegauntlet.blogspot.com/2007/08/easterlies-can-be-rough.html

This blog chronicles the high's and low's of the Cape Gauntlet competition. It's not for the faint-hearted. It's not for those who have to get home to warm slippers. And maybe, maybe we'll come and get you . . . Tuesday, August 07, 2007. Easterlies can be rough! Cornelius landed in very small field with long grass and could not avoid the almost inevitable ground loop - a good result given the situation. Mark headed across the valley to a good area of fields and was later retrieved from almost the cen...

Cape Gauntlet: A final challenge

This blog chronicles the high's and low's of the Cape Gauntlet competition. It's not for the faint-hearted. It's not for those who have to get home to warm slippers. And maybe, maybe we'll come and get you . . . Monday, October 08, 2007. Well, the 2007 Cape Gauntlet saw a challenging last day with two experienced competitors landing out - proving that the ridges around Worcester need to be handled with care. So the race was on down towards Swellendam with most competitors making a first turn well before ...

Cape Gauntlet: August 2006

http://capegauntlet.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html

This blog chronicles the high's and low's of the Cape Gauntlet competition. It's not for the faint-hearted. It's not for those who have to get home to warm slippers. And maybe, maybe we'll come and get you . . . Friday, August 11, 2006. It is with some sadness that we report that the Gauntlet for August is scrubbed. Wet in patches, very weak thermals and a confused, relatively light wind starting SW and going S. Probably a day type 1, 2 at a push. Life is full of puzzles, this one is yours! Farewell to a...

This is the daily diary of the Cape Gliding Club intending to report briefly on the weather, achievements and (flying) antics of the CGC members. Monday, August 27, 2007. Sproing in the cable. Saturday was a beautiful spring day with no wind whatsoever, a nice temperature of 20 degree, snow on the mountains, lush green veld, yellow flowers in short one should be out and about. The show was run by the resident A&A team. Posted by CGC Reporter at 27.8.07. A long weak end. GUC get her AAIsh! Weekend Report:...

http://cgcdiary.blogspot.com/2007/09/cape-groundlet.html

This is the daily diary of the Cape Gliding Club intending to report briefly on the weather, achievements and (flying) antics of the CGC members. Monday, September 03, 2007. Saturday saw windspeeds of up to 60 kph. Still some Gauntleteers turned up and hoped for the best. None of them flew. Rico took up Bill up in search of wave in these extreme conditions. They found heavy turbulence at Jan du Toit (river) but were unable to get into the wave (if it was there) . They tried twice. Courageous.

This is the daily diary of the Cape Gliding Club intending to report briefly on the weather, achievements and (flying) antics of the CGC members. Monday, August 20, 2007. Maintenance Day was well attended with 35 members (out of the 73 listed) and got off to a slow start but picked up momentum as the day got warmer. At the end of all the work the Lambada got airborne with the Hepburns and then the Grob first had a flight with Nina and I and then Johnny later for an evening flight around the valley.

CGC Diary: Of course!

http://cgcdiary.blogspot.com/2007/09/of-course.html

This is the daily diary of the Cape Gliding Club intending to report briefly on the weather, achievements and (flying) antics of the CGC members. Tuesday, September 25, 2007. We had a super long weekend with some good flying, nice weather although a bit chilly and good results. The weather is definitely changing. During last week temperatures of 32 degrees were seen at FAWC. The switch was turned over last Tuesday. Otherwise we would have exceeded the winch launch record which was set up by Andre and Mad...

CGC Diary: Robertson fly-in

http://cgcdiary.blogspot.com/2007/10/robertson-fly-in.html

This is the daily diary of the Cape Gliding Club intending to report briefly on the weather, achievements and (flying) antics of the CGC members. Thursday, October 11, 2007. The weekend started with a fuel crisis! The joys of a self launcher! As forecast by Sven, there was wave to be found from fairly low level in the valley. Herbie reached 12000ft in his Cirrus (a record for this season) and Rob K 10200ft in his Carat, halfway downwind to Robertson, but outside the TMA. You could also ridge soar...This ...

This is the daily diary of the Cape Gliding Club intending to report briefly on the weather, achievements and (flying) antics of the CGC members. Monday, October 01, 2007. We experienced the edge of a front passing along the coast this weekend. On both days we had southerly to south easterly winds with a cool temperature. The swallows have returned from the north, bringing Tom H with them as well! Sunday saw mainly visitors. William took two friends up while Johan showed some visiting KLM flying pers...

CGC Diary: A long weak end

http://cgcdiary.blogspot.com/2007/08/long-weak-end.html

This is the daily diary of the Cape Gliding Club intending to report briefly on the weather, achievements and (flying) antics of the CGC members. Monday, August 13, 2007. A long weak end. Friday’s weather was worse than Thursday with more rain and wind. The water table on the airfield is so high that the water is not draining away fast enough. Saturday also saw no flying although Bill had arrived in case someone wanted a tug, but had no takers. Sunday was a beautiful day. And that was the weekend news!

This is the daily diary of the Cape Gliding Club intending to report briefly on the weather, achievements and (flying) antics of the CGC members. Monday, September 17, 2007. The tractor get teeth, but it's not the key! Andre spotted a broken spring on the Motor Falke apron and Johnny ascertained that it was from the MF’s exhaust. Johnny replaced it and the training was able to continue without delay. Well done Andre for being attentive and thank-you Johnny for your efforts. Kevin was on his own as duty p...
