Adventures in repairing and sailing boats (and other stuff). Keel Winch Cable Eye Bolt – trouble in paradise. May 11, 2015. So you know how well the welding went fixing the hole for the keel pin. I’m still very excited about it. Sometimes I go out to the garage and just stare at it. It’s so perfect. The pin fits solidly, yet spins easily. Then I look at the other end. Things didn’t go so well there. Not a disaster, but not fixed either. Here it is before we started. Clearing rust around the keel eye bolt.

Sometimes I work in downtown DC and yesterday just happened to be there when the VE day celebrations were going on. I didn’t stay outside for long but had a chance to see a few old planes flying over. They weren’t as loud as a cigarette boat on the bay, but they were pretty loud. Anyways maybe the most boring and tedious job of boat maintenance, but nevertheless managed to remove it all and looking forward to start sanding the anti-fouling (not). Otherwise a beautiful day, sun, but minus degrees and a bit of a chill on the fingers and feet. Note to self: invest in some better boots and gloves. It was a pursuit race, where Sunfish and Lasers and Day Sailers and Flying Scots all race together.
