Captain InterStellar: February 2015

http://captaininterstellar.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, February 28, 2015. It's been a while since I've updated my blog. Been busy with more marine engineering studies towards my next licence known as Engineer Watchkeeper. Unfortunetly there hasn't been much to report as far as Breakthrough Propulsion Physics is concerned the past year, no breakthroughs or new Physics that could help us in this field. It is good to see private companies such as SpaceX. DEF: The Physical Basis of Electromagnetic Propulsion. Review Part 1 of New Ideas, Innovation of N...

Captain InterStellar: Nuts and Bolts 31/10/13

http://captaininterstellar.blogspot.com/2013/10/nuts-and-bolts-311013.html

Thursday, October 31, 2013. Nuts and Bolts 31/10/13. Haven't done much Physics the last 2 months or so, been too busy with a Marine Engineering course I'm doing at the Hunter Institute - TAFE. This is towards getting my next Chief Engineer's licence. Some random photos below of the marine engineering workshop, Newcastle and the maritime action on the busy harbour (click for bigger versions). Impressive fleet of tugboats they have there. The wineyards up the Hunter Valley are also worth a visit.

Captain InterStellar: March 2013

http://captaininterstellar.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Tuesday, March 19, 2013. Is Gravity Control Propulsion viable? So far Gravity Control Propulsion doesn't look promising, we know. Spacetime tells mass how to move and mass tells spacetime how to curve (gravity). However with our current understanding of GR and QFT we don't understand the underlying quantum processes that causes this, GR however models the above very well. In QFT, a hypothetical particle called the graviton. The Gravity Probe B experiment. Is it possible for mass. And "the general consens...

Did a skydiver see a meteoroid in flight? April 6, 2014. So I will have to do it for myself. Update 7-4-2013:. Phil Plait has now posted a more skeptical followup. Suggesting similar ideas as written here (and by others elsewhere) which I fully agree with. The first thing to think about is what are the chances of this happening? The most plausible explanation is the first thing that came into my mind and which others on slashdot have also suggested. Yes certainly as this video. Along the lines that the s...

Climate Change: Fact or Fiction? | viXra log

https://blog.vixra.org/category/climate-change-fact-or-fiction

Climate Change: Fact or Fiction? June 18, 2010. Obviously this is no small matter. The future of our world and the fate of humanity is at stake here. If the Alarmists are right we need to take drastic and costly action now. If the Deniers are right we would be overreacting and seriously damaging the global economy for nothing. How can we decide who to believe? My plan is to run a series of posts here looking at specific claims about climate change, such as “The sea is warming? Posted by Philip Gibbs.

Will the 100 TeV Hadron Collider get built? March 7, 2014. The possibility for a 100 TeV hadron collider was first mentioned on this blog. In 2011 long before your other favoured outlets got excited about it, but before we consider naming it the ViXra Legacy Hadron Collider it should be admitted that the idea was part of a plan formed as long ago as Snowmass-1996 in the US, even if it did take viXra to shake it back into the consciousness of physicists. A hadron collider will boost national prestige.

Who should get the Nobel Prize for cosmic inflation? | viXra log

https://blog.vixra.org/2014/03/16/who-should-get-the-nobel-prize-for-cosmic-inflation

Who should get the Nobel Prize for cosmic inflation? After the first 24 hours of analysis Linde’s model of chaotic inflation with quadratic potential appears to be in particularly good shape so perhaps I was being premature. In any case his widely seen status as one of the “principle architects of inflation theory” along with Guth is sure to win him many nominations. Gives a detailed account of their ideas. Another paper by L. E. Gurevich. In 1975 is also accessible and shows just how advanced this work ...

Suggests that it will be tomorrow. This part of the Moriond meeting is not being webcast so we will have to wait for slides to come online. Posted by Philip Gibbs. Looking Forward to Moriond. The Dark Side of Open Access. January 18, 2013. In the traditional publication model it would be very unusual to find a journal that placed explicit limitation on who could publish in its pages. It is not something I had experienced before, but with open access journals this is becoming more common. For now there are still plenty of small open access journals that take submissions from anyone, but will they last? Green, Gold or Diamond. Why Does it Matter? Posted by Philip Gibbs. March 16, 2012. Abel Prize for Yakov Sinai. March 27, 2014. The strangest thing is that this is not the case with mathematical tools. A concept or method used to solve one mathematical problem often turns out to be just as useful in solving others that are completely different and seemingly unrelated. To give a simple example, the number. The base of the natural logarithms. Why do the same few numbers keep coming up in mathematics instead of different ones for every problem? It is even more surprising to pure mathematic...

Primordial Gravitational Waves? | viXra log

https://vixra.wordpress.com/2014/03/15/primordial-gravitational-waves

The rumor mill has once again turned its wheels a few cogs to throw out some new grist for physicists and cosmologists. This is following the announcement last Wednesday of an announcement this Monday. The B-modes will have an anisotropy spectrum just as the scalar modes do and Planck may eventually provide us with a plot of this spectrum but as an initial result we are interested in the peak ratio of the tensor modes to the scalar modes which is given by a parameter known simply as. For more see TRF.
