Do you glance at the picture books that some Junior School children bring home from the OLRC and dismiss them as “just for the little ones”? 8221; A night of soul searching and a stack of jotter pads later and they were no closer to a good idea than at the start. The pictures that held me most, however, are the pictures of the roots of the tre...

iPad: the new slate: February 2012

IPad: the new slate. Saturday, February 4, 2012. IAnnotate: turning data into (annotated) information. I have been gleefully showing folk how useful Dropbox is, but truth to tell I have been worrying about handling PDFs. Not only do I get quite a few I need to handle for school, but I am doing some study and want more than Dropbox offers. Just taking them over to iBooks doesn't do: its a very basic reader. Today I discovered some new (for me) features. such as a full file and folder system! You can use d...

iPad: the new slate: Now with added iPhone
http://thenewslate.blogspot.com/2011/09/now-with-added-iphone.html
IPad: the new slate. Thursday, September 8, 2011. Now with added iPhone. There are at least two reasons to be thinking about iPhones when you investigate iPads. One is Keynote and the other is Scrabble. The iPhone can then show either current slide plus notes, or current and next slide side by side. Walk around, do your presentation, swipe on your iPad to progress slides. A colleague found it highly effective for a recent presentation. Students rehearsing parts or revision with each other.

iPad: the new slate: Notion: real notation editing
http://thenewslate.blogspot.com/2012/02/notion-real-notation-editing.html
IPad: the new slate. Saturday, February 4, 2012. Notion: real notation editing. I am so impressed with Notion for iPad. It is not hard to find music apps for the iPad (synths, recorders and the like) but this is the first music notation editor I have found and its a fine piece of coding. Ultimately the iPad screen is very small for work like this, but the app works well and smoothly. Select a crotchet, hit C on the keyboard, and a C is placed on the stave you are working on. You can use a system ...This ...

The Other Bookshelf: The Snowman

Wednesday, October 5, 2011. I can't remember why I bought this book. perhaps the cover patch that proclaimed "The Next Stieg Larsson". 350 Words or Less. Reviews on books in the Odell Learning Resources Centre, moderated by Andrew Lack for Pacific Hills Christian School. Sunday, March 10, 2013. The Other Side of Dawn. I have just finished John Marsden’s The Other Side of Dawn. This is the seventh and last book in the Tomorrow When the War Began. I felt far less engaged with Ellie, and less clear about the moral issues involved, than with the lead characters in two other books about deadly teens. Katniss in Hunger Games. Perhaps the diff...
