The Mind of Dr. Pion: January 2012
http://doctorpion.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
The Mind of Dr. Pion. Simplifying the complex and complexifying the rest: Ravings on physics, politics, education, motoring, and the Harvard comma. Wednesday, January 4, 2012. First Day of Class. Amusing and thought-provoking blog about first day of class rituals. From Gradhacker at IHE. I usually waste way too much time on the syllabus and am fighting to get pro-forma nonsense down under 10 minutes. I want to do some physics on the first day. More detailed comments later, but I also like to give a quiz.

The Mind of Dr. Pion: Followup on Chinese engineering problems

The Mind of Dr. Pion. Simplifying the complex and complexifying the rest: Ravings on physics, politics, education, motoring, and the Harvard comma. Wednesday, December 28, 2011. Followup on Chinese engineering problems. I'm a big fan of the book "To Engineer is Human", so I can't be too hard on the people involved in the investigation of a bullet train crash in China. (See my previous article. Here's to hoping the same people aren't working on their aircraft. Posted by Doctor Pion. Due South of Michigan.

The Mind of Dr. Pion. Simplifying the complex and complexifying the rest: Ravings on physics, politics, education, motoring, and the Harvard comma. Friday, August 16, 2013. Facebook makes people feel worse? As we approach the time of year when students leave home without really leaving, because they remain tethered via Facebook. That makes reports of this new study. Posted by Doctor Pion. Links to this post. Thursday, August 15, 2013. Fascinating article today in IHE. Posted by Doctor Pion. Ms Mentor (ar...

The Mind of Dr. Pion. Simplifying the complex and complexifying the rest: Ravings on physics, politics, education, motoring, and the Harvard comma. Thursday, August 15, 2013. Fascinating article today in IHE. Amusing because getting students to do most of these things strikes me as wildly optimistic! And some are utterly irrelevant to science or engineering majors. The Mind of Dr. Pion. Simplifying the complex and complexifying the rest: Ravings on physics, politics, education, motoring, and the Harvard comma. Thursday, March 14, 2013. And a Happy Birthday to that rather famous son of an electrical equipment salesman. When I was looking up a link, I noticed that it has been over a year since I've written anything here on this blog! Too busy with both necessary (did someone say assessing outcomes? Posted by Doctor Pion. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Ms Mentor ...

Climate Change: Fact or Fiction? | viXra log
https://blog.vixra.org/category/climate-change-fact-or-fiction
Climate Change: Fact or Fiction? June 18, 2010. Obviously this is no small matter. The future of our world and the fate of humanity is at stake here. If the Alarmists are right we need to take drastic and costly action now. If the Deniers are right we would be overreacting and seriously damaging the global economy for nothing. How can we decide who to believe? My plan is to run a series of posts here looking at specific claims about climate change, such as “The sea is warming? Posted by Philip Gibbs.

Will the 100 TeV Hadron Collider get built? March 7, 2014. The possibility for a 100 TeV hadron collider was first mentioned on this blog. In 2011 long before your other favoured outlets got excited about it, but before we consider naming it the ViXra Legacy Hadron Collider it should be admitted that the idea was part of a plan formed as long ago as Snowmass-1996 in the US, even if it did take viXra to shake it back into the consciousness of physicists. A hadron collider will boost national prestige.

TGD diary: Congruence subgroups of SL(2,R), Monster Moonshine, Gaussian Mersennes, and p-adic physics
http://matpitka.blogspot.com/2015/07/stephen-crowley-made-very-interesting.html
Daily musings, mostly about physics and consciousness, heavily biased by Topological Geometrodynamics background. Monday, July 20, 2015. Congruence subgroups of SL(2,R), Monster Moonshine, Gaussian Mersennes, and p-adic physics. Stephen Crowley made a very interesting observation about Gaussian Mersennes in the comment section of the posting Pion of M. Hadron physics at LHC? I glue the comment below. Matti, why Low Gaussian primes? Congruence group Γ. In SL(2,C) are identified. Would also make sense and ...
