Carrie Etter: Kim Moore's The Art of Falling (Seren, 2015)
http://carrieetter.blogspot.com/2015/05/kim-moores-art-of-falling-seren-2015.html
Poet, teacher and critic. Monday, 11 May 2015. Kim Moore's The Art of Falling (Seren, 2015). And the soul, if she is to know herself. Must look into the soul and find. What kind of beast is hiding. The opening stanza of "And the Soul". I come from people who swear without realising they're swearing. The opening line of "My People". And the lawn sits. In its shadows and dark and its falsehoods. And the ending begins with its terrible face,. Its strange way of being, its short way of living. I knew it then.

Carrie Etter: Peter Riley's Due North (Shearsman, 2015), first selection
http://carrieetter.blogspot.com/2015/04/peter-rileys-due-north-shearsman-2015.html
Poet, teacher and critic. Thursday, 16 April 2015. Peter Riley's Due North (Shearsman, 2015), first selection. Raising the head, learning wisdom. In a form of desire, a distance to be gained, learning to wait,. Absence of question-marks, Orphic stasis. Wood smoke drifting across the fields. Dividing thought between love and duty. How from the vast emptiness of the million words. The short phrase strikes the bone between the eyes,. Tell me how the world is altered, so little. Tell me all night-. In the mo...
Carrie Etter: Andrew McMillan's Physical (Cape, 2015)
http://carrieetter.blogspot.com/2015/05/andrew-mcmillans-physical-cape-2015.html
Poet, teacher and critic. Thursday, 7 May 2015. Andrew McMillan's Physical (Cape, 2015). Some favourite passages from this forthcoming collection:. Grappling with the shifting question of each other's bodies. Until the morning breaks across them and still their strength. Taken allegorically he is beating on himself. Until the point at which the inner river of the word grace. Runs past and everything lays down in calm. From "Jacob with the Angel". They have got too close to the glass. How much of fighting.
Carrie Etter: March 2015
http://carrieetter.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Poet, teacher and critic. Tuesday, 31 March 2015. Claire Crowther's On Narrowness (Shearsman, 2015). Mosquitoes charged me with their sour sugar. Outside the vinegar house. Six years, ten years,. Sixty, it ferments from oak to juniper. To chestnut to cherry and back to oak wood barrels,. Balsamic vinegar separating itself. From a hundred year old mother sediment. Opening stanza of "The Apology". Till we both are. Woken by pain with its orange beak. I cling to you tighter. Than a striped shell. Can be ord...

Writing, Reading, Reviewing. Newer posts →. August 25, 2014. I do have a futon to shift, so maybe I will get to meet the man and his dog. Last week there was a brilliant post from a man wanting to freecycle a surf board. I include it here with thanks to its author. I like the idea of a story about a desperate surfer wanting a challenge, or a person involved in a strange project. I should write this story perhaps a desperate older woman surfer in need of a new challenge in life…? Listening as a writer.
sonic lipstick: September 2009

Poetry and other Observations recollected in Relative Tranquillity. Sunday, 27 September 2009. Birthday, at the Movies. I am old enough to remember this and to want to hold onto it. Posted by Space Poet. Saturday, 26 September 2009. Coats, poetic and otherwise. My birthday tomorrow so I’ve been shopping and trying on coats. Why not! Hushed is the lake of hawks. Bright with our excitement. And all the sky of skulls. Glows with scarlet roses. In case you’re wondering, in dróttkvætt, pairs of three-st...

the groaning bookshelf: What a line: Mrs Dalloway
http://thegroaningbookshelf.blogspot.com/2008/11/what-line-mrs-dalloway.html
All things word related. books, reviews, recipes, shopping lists, poems and more. Sunday, 23 November 2008. What a line: Mrs Dalloway. It took me about two years to finish Mrs Dalloway. It's one of those books that I began with the best of intentions, but somehow I found her stream of consciousness writing so tedious and overcooked. It was like seeing Salvador Dali's lobster. And then, while I was doing the MA at Bath Spa. That green frill stayed with me all day. And it made me think of another thing...

http://thegroaningbookshelf.blogspot.com/2008/12/off-bookshelf.html
All things word related. books, reviews, recipes, shopping lists, poems and more. Tuesday, 16 December 2008. Have just finished reading The Outcast. By Sadie Jones. It was incredibly well-reviewed . And I had expected something life-altering. But, like another heavily marketed book, The Resurrectionist. I was left feeling a tiny bit short-changed. Having said all that, she is a fantastic writer. I also have on my bedside table Gerard Woodward's I'll Go to Bed at Noon. I'm reading Gerard Woodward. A Girl...

Prisoner Of Hope
Wednesday, April 8, 2015. I am not enough. Have you ever felt that way? It is ridiculous for me to glance at other people’s lives and compare their lives to mine. I am not called, formed or fashioned to fit into that life. The Bible says that God knows me by name. (Isa 43:1, " “Don’t be afraid, I’ve redeemed you. I’ve called your name. You’re mine.”). Be encouraged today dear friends, You are good enough. You are uniquely designed and created to fulfill the plan that God has in mind for you! And so am I!

Carrie Evans – Communications for the Church by Carrie Evans
Communications for the Church by Carrie Evans. How to Use Email Automation for Easter Follow Up. Photo by Ilze Lucero. One of the most overlooked parts of Easter planning can be the follow-up process. It’s incredible to see new guests show up at your church after you’ve spent weeks preparing, but how do you get them to come back? Email is still a very effective communication tool. Because it’s simple to use and pretty inexpensive, but many email services offer automation. This first email should come fro...
