Garden Pieces | Carving Out Loud!

https://carvingoutloud.com/2014/12/14/garden-pieces

Ravings about stone, sculpture and carving. About this time last year, I had just finished up a couple of classes at the CSSC in VT. My plan was to finish some of the pieces of marble that I had blocked out as components. Unfortunately, I had to have knee surgery instead – so, I’m just getting around to assembly. Here’s some images of the first one I was able to complete. I’ve been referring to them as Garden Angel’s while they’re in process:. Follow any comments here with the RSS feed for this post.

New Work | Carving Out Loud!

https://carvingoutloud.com/2014/12/08/new-work

Ravings about stone, sculpture and carving. Before all of the fall events this year, I did manage to spend some time concentrating on my own work. In August I was fortunate to be able to attend a very special course up in W. Rutland and the CSSC. These images are of a piece that I worked on from a small model and put the finishing touches on recently. So far, it’s untitled. Massimo applying mastic to key points on each model. My model carved from a piece of ‘air’ block. Older: AIA Symposium 2014.

Ketchup? | Carving Out Loud!

https://carvingoutloud.com/2014/12/02/ketchup

Ravings about stone, sculpture and carving. It has been a year since my last post, so I’m going to start with what I’ve been up to most recently and work my way backwards. I’ve been busy enough that I didn’t really feel like I had the extra cycles to keep posting. Sadly, I’ve just finished moving all of my equipment, tools and stone out of the studio space I’ve been renting since the summer of 2008. This is an image I took as I was loading up the last of my things and heading out last week.

A Melting Pot | Carving Out Loud!

https://carvingoutloud.com/2014/12/02/a-melting-pot

Ravings about stone, sculpture and carving. Most recently at Andre’s Institute I assisted Director, John Weidman by preparing the scratch molds used at this year’s event. John threw together several wooden frames. We used a mixture of resin bond and play sand to create over 70 scratch blocks for the participants to use. Here are images of some of the process:. This has become a biannual event at AIA. If you haven’t made it up yet, there’ll be another one in the spring. Newer: AIA Symposium 2014.

This WordPress.com site is the bee's knees. March 29, 2016. Having been working on this for few week, I needed to look at getting the problems I had previously in the past and try and make into a piece that can be sold. This piece I tried with super glue which means there is no screws in the piece and clamping each part in place helped me in pushing this piece further. This piece has been a real success in my eyes and I already have the possibility of a buyer for this piece. March 20, 2016. March 21, 2016.

This WordPress.com site is the bee's knees. February 24, 2016. March 16, 2016. Standing back from the large scale sculpture, I have decided to go and try a smaller piece but with this one is different. This has a solid plaster base as I am now looking at a solid base to build up and already it is getting somewhere. February 23, 2016. March 16, 2016. I have been working on this piece with limited amount of wood so I have decided to leave it until I get some more wood but there is something to the piece.

This WordPress.com site is the bee's knees. Spray painting plaster shapes. May 9, 2016. June 5, 2016. With having to await for the concrete to arrive, I thought it would be good chance to try and figure out how to spray my commissions in a different colour. So I gave them both a coat of white spray paint and then on each shape used a colour that I was planning to spray with. Thankfully, it had worked on both of them and now I am looking to spray the pieces the same way I did with these shapes. Contempora...
