Ceramic Restoration Studio: Fireplace Surrounds
http://marsrestorationblog.blogspot.com/2014/04/fireplace-surrounds.html
Various things going on in an established ceramic restoration studio which treats heritage and contemporary art objects. Monday, 7 April 2014. A few years back I was asked to help with the production of two new fireplace surrounds for a home renovation. A box of assorted Victorian tiles landed on my doorstep and I was to clean and mend scorched tiles that were prised off an old fireplace. It was quite the assortment. They tended to be geometric rather than realistic. So,. It was EBay to the rescue! Black...

http://marsrestorationblog.blogspot.com/2014/04/huaco-jaguar-vessel.html
Various things going on in an established ceramic restoration studio which treats heritage and contemporary art objects. Tuesday, 1 April 2014. Disaster struck recently when a workman blundered into a beautiful Peruvian jaguar vessel at the home of a collector. The same view with the in-fill toned to be less obvious. From an Amsterdam Ex...

What happens when an old restoration breaks? Sometimes you want to save it as part of the history of the object. Here is an interesting blue-glazed buff earthenware charger bought in Holland which is almost 35% plaster restoration. So, what do you do now? The change of vibrancy of colour is perhaps not as marked in real life. The...

Ceramic Restoration Studio: April 2009

Various things going on in an established ceramic restoration studio which treats heritage and contemporary art objects. Tuesday, 28 April 2009. The box of egg shards contained sheets of what looked like cigarette rolling paper. This sort of paper takes up moisture very easily but resists tearing. Oddly enough, it's inclusion in the box of shells inspired me to figure out this way of holding the shells together without filling them entirely with a backing material. .
