EYF 2016 – It’s Almost Time. It is almost time again for my favourite yarn festival – Edinburgh Yarn Festival. It was my first time attending last year and it is the most wonderful festival full of yarn, fibre and crafty folks. There are always fantastic vendors at EYF and I am already giddy with excitement when I look at the list of vendors that will be there this year. I still have some skeins left from last year – I seem to be able to buy more than I can knit! Are you coming to Edinburgh Yarn Festival?

Edinburgh Yarn Festival 2015. Two weekends ago, I was lucky enough to be at Edinburgh Yarn Festival, and I had the most amazing time. The previous EYF was in 2013, and although I missed that one, I was not going to miss this one – and am I glad that I was there.I had the best weekend I’ve had in a long time surrounded by great people. Speaking of colours, how perfect is this photo of the Easy Knits stand? I am a huge fan of Jon’s yarns and he is hugely talented with colour. I picked up a few th...You are...

This yarn caught my eye straight away and I had no idea how it would look when being knitted. I purchased the Bengale colourway and patiently waited for the time to come to cast on. That moment came last Wednesday – everything came together perfectly, it was my birthday, I was attending a new knitting group and there were only 2 days to go until I got on the train to Edinburgh. One of a kind. Sunday, August 2, 2015. Yes, I have an awful lot to catch up on, a lot has happened in my life and not having a properly functioning laptop doesn’t make things easier! However, that’s for another post, this one is all about BookTube-a-Thon! This is the 3rd year for the readathon, which is run by Ariel Bissett. And didn’t do so great last year ( links. However I am SUPER excited and ready to go! And I love that Sharon. 1 A book with blue on the cover. I really wanted to do one with my full ...

One of a kind. Friday, August 28, 2015. This year’s BookTube-a-Thon was a much bigger success than last year for me! I managed to complete all the goals and read some more after too! Here’s a look at what I read. 1 Book by an author who shares the same first letter as your last name. Carrot Cake Murder by Joanne Fluke. 2 A book with blue on the cover. Armada by Ernest Cline. 3 Read a book without putting it down. Scott Pilgrim’s Finest Hour. 4 Someone else’s favourite book. Animal Farm by George Orwell.
rare opal: A Life Update
http://rare-opal.blogspot.com/2015/06/a-life-update.html
One of a kind. Wednesday, June 10, 2015. I guess it's not all doom and gloom. As easy as it is for me to concentrate on the negative (glass half empty person that I am), there are some good things. Like being able to stay the extra month in Manchester til the end of July. And the fact that I'll be close enough to home once I move back. Which suits me really well, seeing as I'm a big home bird! This being a temporary move, who knows where we'll be in 12 months time. maybe even back in Manchester! I know y...

One of a kind. Friday, February 13, 2015. Valentine’s Emoiji Nail Art. So I based this look off just emoijis! It was a fun idea, I went through the emoijis on my phone and picked these ones for my Valentine’s theme. Yellow I used was NYC in Lexington Yellow, with Barry M Black Nail art pen and Rimmel Rita Ora in Raw as Night for the red. Not quite as perfect as I wanted but I’m still happy with how they turned out! Links to this post. Tuesday, February 10, 2015. Nude Valentine’s Nails. Links to this post.

So when I thought of doing a series based off looking at the older NOW That’s What I Call Music. I'll link it when it's out. I was 9 when I owned this and it was the 3rd CD I ever owned! rare opal: 25 Before 25
http://rare-opal.blogspot.com/2012/03/25-before-25.html
One of a kind. Sunday, March 11, 2012. It only hit me a few weeks ago that I turn 25 this year. TWENTY FIVE. That’s a quarter of a century. And then it hit me that there’s probably loads of things I’d like to do before then. I’ve briefly touched on goals. Before and I like to do my resolutions. For the past 3 years but there’s just something different about hitting a landmark birthday. 1 Crochet a granny square. 2 Visit an unvisited country. 3 Host a cocktail party. 4 Sew an item of clothing from scratch.
rare opal: December 2014
http://rare-opal.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
One of a kind. Sunday, December 28, 2014. Winter and Christmas Nails. I hope you all had a Merry Christmas/whatever you celebrate. I certainly did, I’m still on holidays for a day or two, enjoying being home in Ireland. I did various nail looks over December and meant to post them up here before now but I just got busy with work and crafting. Here’s three looks I tried out this year. This was one of my favourites to try. I used Rimmel Rita Ora. As a base coat, then sponged on the white along with Essence.

rare opal: March 2015
http://rare-opal.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
One of a kind. Sunday, March 15, 2015. So super late wrap up post, considering we’re half way through March already. All will be revealed though! So this is the main reason I’ve been super slack with blog posts recently, what with preparing for interviews, starting my new job while also still working in my old one. I’ve been so busy juggling both jobs I’ve done barely anything this February. My new job is in a bookshop, which I think you’ll agree is perfect for me! I’m really enjoying it so far too.

Cashmere and Chicken Coops
Monday, February 1, 2016. This is a simplified version of baked eggs, with multicultural ingredients, because that's what was in my fridge. Traditionally you would use a bain marie (placing egg filled ramekins in a shallow pan half filled with hot water while baking). I like this version because the whites are cooked a little more while the yolks are as runny or hard as you like. And its easier. 2 - 3 tablespoons Crema Mexicana (or crème fraiche) This is going to be a staple in my fridge from now on!
