Castles of Tin: New Horse - Toy Town Soldiers 4
http://castlesoftin.blogspot.com/2015/03/new-horse-toy-town-soldiers-4.html
Welcome to my blog, wherein I indulge my fondness for wargaming miniatures. Tuesday, March 10, 2015. New Horse - Toy Town Soldiers 4. One other issue, couldn't free the right leg from the mold after the first casting. I cut some of the silicon rubber to free it up but clumsily cut a bit too much, leaving metal residue to be cleaned up on all subsequent casts, but the results are tolerable. At some point I'll make another mold but this will suffice for now. So how does the completed horse look? Excellent ...
Castles of Tin: February 2014
http://castlesoftin.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Welcome to my blog, wherein I indulge my fondness for wargaming miniatures. Friday, February 21, 2014. PA Cavalry Conversion: 40mm Semi-Rounds. And I would have done so but for the lack of sufficient RTV compound. Rather than taking the sensible course of ordering more and waiting, I tried patching the 2nd half, would up cutting extra channels in the original half as a work-around and to sum up, botched the whole thing. So we're a week or two away from seeing this figure actually painted. I've often wish...
Castles of Tin: War of the Spanish Imaginations - 45mm Wooden Flats
http://castlesoftin.blogspot.com/2015/03/war-of-spanish-imaginations-45mm-wooden.html
Welcome to my blog, wherein I indulge my fondness for wargaming miniatures. Thursday, March 19, 2015. War of the Spanish Imaginations - 45mm Wooden Flats. No doubt some of you are familiar with Wooden Wars toy soldiers made by the very talented Thomas Foss. as seen on his blog Skull and Crown. The bayonet scabbard is also something I painted on, if it's not good that's on the painter and not the designer. March 19, 2015 at 10:30 AM. They look lovely.Ill follow this with interest! Thanks very much, Hugh&#...

The previous post showing the Toob horse that I used to replace the standard Eureka horse stimulated some quite interesting comments. Thanks to everyone who contributed and it caused me to have a something of a rethink. Here's what I came up with:. Oh, and a salute to the 100th Follower of this blog, Andrew Palmer! Castles of Tin: SCAD Prussian Cuirassier - 40mm Semi-Flat
http://castlesoftin.blogspot.com/2015/05/scad-prussian-cuirassier-40mm-semi-flat.html
Welcome to my blog, wherein I indulge my fondness for wargaming miniatures. Wednesday, May 20, 2015. SCAD Prussian Cuirassier - 40mm Semi-Flat. Here's a nice mold, SCAD's Napoleonic Prussian cuirassier. Maybe the best deal I've gotten yet on eBay. French eBay in fact, the new mold going for 10 euros with free shipping to the US. Putting myself in the seller's shoes, the transaction can barely have been worth the trouble to pack the mold and drive to the post office. Here's the mold design. I'd rather the...

Lead Gardens: Back to the Front
http://littlejohnslead.blogspot.com/2013/03/back-to-front.html
Saturday, March 2, 2013. Back to the Front. It seems that I have been skulking in the rear here at the Lead Gardens, since my last post on Dec. 22! A age ago in blogging terms. So I've resolved to quit paying so much attention to work, family and career and get back to what really matters—pushing great masses of lead around around "the Green Mile"! Jasta 37's new machines just arrived at the front. These Albatri are destined for a repaint to make a complete unit. Here at the Lead Gardens. Although it is ...

Lead Gardens: An Odd Idea
http://littlejohnslead.blogspot.com/2012/12/an-odd-idea.html
Tuesday, December 18, 2012. A Reb unit assaults a wood defended by Union infantry and a battery of artillery. (The game board is a bit shiny and I was thinking a quick coat of matte spray might make the whole look of the game a bit more like a tabletop wargame rather than a boardgame. Basically I took the idea of drilling the game surface to accept trees to one of my "Battle Cry" game boards to try a way of producing wooded hexes without having to use the flat tiles included in the game. All the best,.
Lead Gardens: Classic Wargames Building Tutorial
http://littlejohnslead.blogspot.com/2011/01/classic-wargames-building-tutorial.html
Sunday, January 30, 2011. Classic Wargames Building Tutorial. So for this post I thought it might be a nice break from AARs to post some basic ideas for producing "classic" wargaming buildings in short order with a minimum of headaches and a maximum of fun! OK so here goes:. First, the base is cut from a 1/8" masonite (mdf) scrap that I had laying around. (my wife calls me a hoarder, but I think it's just a wargamer habit to be alert to that "hey I can use that". Next we glue all the sides together.(...

Showing posts with label Colonials. Showing posts with label Colonials. Tuesday, November 20, 2012. Pre-dreadnoughts painted British style. I've been following a few blogs where homemade wargaming minis feature particularly "Wooden Warriors". And I was also looking at the yahoo group, "wargaming on a budget". This morning and it reminded me of a little project I started a year ago that was my shot a wargaming on the cheap. Sunday, November 11, 2012. Northwest Frontier: "Big Battle" Style. A Bengal lancer, .one of my favorites! If you look close you can see Her Majesty herself. After many years of service, this fellow is in need of some rest.perhaps. In a nice RTV rubber mold.

Castles of Tin
Welcome to my blog, wherein I indulge my fondness for wargaming miniatures. Friday, December 29, 2017. Back in the Saddle. I sampled a box of these HaT Carthaginian infantry. How do they look painted? Nothing exceptional really. I don't know that much about the Carthaginians but I suppose the case could be made for their wearing captured Roman armor. But I prefer something more distinctive. Such as CTS's animated take:. A Macedonian Companion atop and below:. Speaking of scale, I ordered a half dozen rea...
