This weekend, I started on the “soft” parts by ripping the seams of the gloves and jacket (where needed) and removing the pockets from the coveralls. It would be more accura...The Replica P...

January 21st, 2011. Scary, but not the look Im going for. Prototype trimmed, painted. January 16th, 2011. Then I added trim along the edge by splitting an old cable, stripping out the wires inside, and using Gorilla Glue to adhere it. As far as paint, I’m going to darken the blue next time, and maybe add some metallic g...

January 11th, 2012 at 23:35 #1. Okay, I’m understanding all of this but one thing. Initially you sculpted on a plaster mold of someone’s face, i presumed so the mask would be form fit. Then you made a mold of the actual mask, but not the plaster part… So, is the mask not form fit to her face? Just to make it easier?

Documenting my obsession with building and collecting props and sci fi stuff. Second Pull – Droid Mask. December 16th, 2010. First real pull. Some distortion due to camera, some due to poor casting. After picking up some white casting resin, I cleaned up the mold from our first disastrous pull (with the wrong type of resin) and tried again. Use thinner silicone for the first coat of the mold, to avoid bubbles/pits. We have some nasty ones, as you can see around the mouth and chin in the image. We started...

Documenting my obsession with building and collecting props and sci fi stuff. First pull from new mold. First pull from new mold. January 10th, 2011. First layer of oogoo down. Second oogoo layer down. I’m using a white, 1:1 ratio casting resin from Alumilite. Since my test casting from the old mold came out with a ton of bubbles, I wanted to be much gentler this time around with my slushing. The resin came with little 2 oz T. Bs cups for measuring, so I used 3 4 oz. First pull from the new mold.

Find me on Facebook. September 11, 2015. When I originally decided to make Éomer’s armor in 2013, I planned to also have the helmet ready for Dragon Con. It soon became clear that I would have to postpone that dream, so it wasn’t until June of 2014 that I picked it up again. I decided to try and debut it at Wizard World Chicago / Chicago Comic Con (Aug 23rd), and get a photo taken with Karl Urban. Helmet templates drawn in Illustrator. MDF frame with insulation foam. Black acrylic paint over the foam.
