Musings from a lifelong learner, educator who likes to color outside the lines. Monthly Archives: December 2015. Another Step in our Minecraft Journey. For those of you that have read my blog posts before, you know I am a big fan of using Minecraft in the classroom, but I also try to use it in a way to bring my students’ learning to life. It was because of these two things that the newest project my students did came to fruition. Judges sharing their thoughts on school designs. To end things off, I would...

Musings from a lifelong learner, educator who likes to color outside the lines. Straight from the Horse’s Mouth. For those that have read some of my posts before, you know I am quite passionate about my love of books and reading and trying to instill the same love for books in my students. Musings from a lifelong learner, educator who likes to color outside the lines. Our Cardboard Arcade Journey. Both my grade partners were both hesitant but intrigued with the idea and after looking at all the positives that would come from this – hands on learning, problem solving, creative thinking plus we’d hit so many of our objectives in a real world, interesting way. They both agreed this was a great learning opportunity so we decided to give it a shot. The students were excited right from the get g...

Musings from a lifelong learner, educator who likes to color outside the lines. A few days ago someone shared the quote below by someone I greatly admire – the great Donalyn Miller (and if you don’t know who she is, you NEED to follow her on twitter). For me, this really summed up the reasoning behind why I do read alouds in my classroom. I have a passion for reading. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. February 19, 2016. THE DABELS DIVULGE
Sunday, October 5, 2014. Post essay blog post. Can you figure out that title? What I mean to say is that this post is written after I just wrote an essay. You know? Post essay as opposed to pre essay? Whatever, it's a stupid title, I get it. So, I have been thinking about this here blog a lot lately and how much I used to love writing it and keeping it updated and how it was the most fun hobby ever. Now it's this thing in the background that I miss. You know what else I miss? The teenagers both had birth...
THE DABELS DIVULGE (RESURGENCE)
Wednesday, December 7, 2016. Baby, it's cold outside. Every winter, at the Dabels, there is a war of wills. Every winter for the last 21 years this willful war gets waged and the wrangling for position between husband and wife begins. Despite my best efforts, and wow. Have I put in my fair share of effort, I never walk away the victor of this recurring war. My personal arguments do change from year to year, but the man is nothing if not consistent. Me: I have another. Him: You know I work outside, right?
