Welcome! | catholicprovo

Though Utah is indisputably the best state in the Union, most of its denizens have never heard of The Catholic University of America. So, I often just say it is “the BYU of Catholicism” and leave it at that. This semester, I am studying abroad in the Eternal City: Rome. While I’d guess that most people in Utah. Heard of Rome, I still think it’s amusing to say I’ve moved up to “the Provo of Catholicism.”. 2 responses to “. September 29, 2013 at 1:49 pm. Is Siena in your route around Italy? Blame Piazza di...

Newer posts →. My week’s staple? I’d like to dedicate this post to all of the hours of sleep that selflessly and nobly gave their lives to make the events described below possible. Ciao-issimo, Papa Francesco. In this instance, “well” means deeply, because I woke up early to attend one of the best Masses I’ve been to in Rome thus far. This is fitting, because it was the Feast of Saint Cecilia, patroness of musicians. Nothing shy of the most beautiful place outside of Utah. Beer The slogan for this ambros...

Reflections on the end. →. December 15, 2013 · 12:55 am. The last post with pictures…. First, to my great shame, I forgot one of the best features of Bari when I posted yesterday! They have a very unique interpretation of Advent wreaths. By “very unique,” I mean “barely recognizable.” None had evergreen, for starters. One sported candles of blue, red, yellow and white. Another was perched on a weirdly shaped tree trunk. My favorite, though, was this:. Neo-paganism meets German engineering. This was exqui...

The last post with pictures…. December 15, 2013 · 2:20 am. Reflections on the end. Where then can I even begin the end of the incomparable adventure I have had in Rome? Would not the implication that I could be merely an insult to the splendor of the place? The truth, after much reflection, revealed itself somewhere between my arrogance and their superficiality, and of course, it’s all about Beauty. That Beauty should come to dwell among us in this way. What is the point of all this? Perhaps a little....

My finals week is over…. The last post with pictures… →. December 13, 2013 · 11:23 pm. In search of warmth and the true meaning of relaxation, I could think of no other place to go than Southern Italy. I spent my time here in three places: Bari, Alberobello and Matera. The same characteristic attracted me to each of them: a beautiful place to wander about without much to do. Perfetto. See, the pollution makes it even more reflective and shiny, so it’s actually a good thing. While happily meandering among...

Transfigure Nature: March 2014
http://transfigurenature.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Saturday, March 29, 2014. I don't have meteorological proof for that, really, but I have felt so much more cheerful in the past two days. I have way more energy, and was even described as "bubbly" by my mother. The grey of winter tends to leave me feeling sapped and depressed, and the little bit of sun we have been getting lately is a lovely change. I am busily working away at finding a job. If anyone knows of a company in the DC area that wants to hire someone with a PhB in philosophy, let me know!

Friday, November 22, 2013. 7 QT, Volume 17. I'm just popping in to say 7 quick things.about moving! 1 We made an offer on a new house, and it got accepted. The closing is scheduled for right before Christmas, so we'll probably move after Christmas. 2 The pros of this house are as follows: it's in a better parish, it's closer to Papa's work, there's an intellectual Catholic community there, and it's prettier than our current house. 5 Prayers for them would be appreciated! Transfigure Nature: Medieval Fun

Saturday, April 12, 2014. Last weekend was Medieval Day at CUA. We all had a great time. I brought my new-to-me camera and practiced taking pictures. One of them even got published in the school newspaper! Here are a few of my favorite shots of the day. The whole flickr set is here. Deliberately obnoxiously watermarked since many of the pictures involve the faces of children. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Light On Dark Water. Transfigure Nature: Moving into break
http://transfigurenature.blogspot.com/2014/04/moving-into-break.html
Wednesday, April 16, 2014. This Easter will be new, as it's the first major Church holiday since we moved. I am hoping that our proximity to the D-house will mean we can go there, but I suspect the others will want to go to a parish church. Oh well. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I'm a 22 year old Roman Catholic girl and just finished my last year at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. I love sewing, reading, thinking, and spending time with my family. Transfigure Nature: December 2013
http://transfigurenature.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 27, 2013. 7 QT, volume 20: Christmas! Christmas is my favorite holiday. I realize, of course, the theological reasons in favor of Easter, but let's be realistic here. Spring dresses, or velvet? Presents does tend to be a sore spot with me, though. I am good at giving them, but not at wrapping them. Presents I wrap tend to turn out crumpled, bumpy, and occasionally torn. While the rest of my family makes nice neat corners and artistic little tags, I do things like this:. As you can see, t...

http://transfigurenature.blogspot.com/2014/04/take-up-thy-cross-savior-said.html
Friday, April 18, 2014. Take Up Thy Cross, the Savior Said. Keeping up my tradition of posting a hymn on Good Friday, here's today's:. Take up thy cross," the Saviour said,. If thou wouldst My disciple be;. Take up thy cross with willing heart,. And humbly follow after Me.". Take up thy cross; let not its weight. Fill thy weak soul with vain alarm;. His strength shall bear thy spirit up,. And brace thy heart and nerve thine arm. Take up thy cross; nor heed the shame,. And let thy foolish pride be still;.

December 15, 2013 · 2:20 am. Reflections on the end. Where then can I even begin the end of the incomparable adventure I have had in Rome? Would not the implication that I could be merely an insult to the splendor of the place? The immediate problem this posed, of course, was that I too was there. Though I wasn’t in any of them and wouldn’t have been making peace signs if I were I was snapping my pictures just the same. Even worse, infinitely worse, I was sticking them on a blog! Perhaps a little. Ul...
