Desolation Florida: The Dixie Mainline and Shired Island
http://www.desolationflorida.com/2016/10/the-dixie-mainline-and-shired-island.html
Saturday, October 29, 2016. The Dixie Mainline and Shired Island. The following three photographs are from the State of Florida Archives. They are labeled as logging from this time period in Dixie County, although whether or not they are from the Dixie Mainline is unknown. However, this should give you a good idea of how the logging operations in the area at that time looked. All three photos are from the 1920s. Much of the Dixie Mainline looks like this. The rather rocky "canoe launch" at Sanders Creek.

Wednesday, December 28, 2016. Lee: Little but Proud. The tiny community of Lee is located in eastern Madison County, between the towns of Madison to the west and Live Oak to the east. I’ve had a hard time finding much information about the history of the small town, but judging from the number of photographs I was able to find in the Florida Archive, it was once much bigger than it is today. Here’s what I was able to learn:. First sawmill in Lee, 1890s. JE Whitty and Son Drugstore,1918 (store built 1910).

Monday, October 31, 2005. As the russians would say, blyadt! Okay, so that's a rather strong bit of profanity. but dammit, my Expedia plane ticket is both non-refundable and non-transferable. I am so very glad I brought. With me. Check out. Some of the lyrics. I'm not really sure what it means when psychotic punk cabaret fits one's mood, but I'm glad I have it with me. Must go try and cancel a plane ticket. Wish me luck! Sunday, October 30, 2005. One may smile, and smile, and be a villain. As I type, we'...

Then, of course, it was time for me to walk home. I made it nearly most of the way without any problems, although as I approached my building, a young man began walking next to me. He tried to talk to me, saying devushka, devushka, blah, blah, blah. Part II: The Dacha. My whole hand was stinging within seconds. Th...

Tuesday, January 31, 2006. What would you talk about? Last week was my first conversation class. Conversation class number two will be this Wednesday. In my first class, I gave the students a survey to see what things they would like to discuss and what things they wouldn't. While the things they were interested in discussing were wide ranging, they seemed unanimously opposed to discussing politics and religion. So barring politics and religion, any suggestions? Monday, January 30, 2006. We weren't out t...

Following our second feast in as many days, we watched the most beautiful and wonderful movie in the world: the French film,. Was perfect, although this movie was far happier. Not that being happier didn't mean it didn't cause a twinge or more of sadness, but.). I'm guessing you're smart enough to figure it out on your own. The Russian Debutante's Handbook. Has anyone else read this book?
