Musings on the Nature of Pride in the wake of straight reaction to the Supreme Court ruling. Jun 29th, 2015 at 3:14 AM. Maybe in the future, now that marriage equality is law, we will get to a point where it is not an act of bravery to say, "I'm queer", but we're not there yet. Saying that IS still an act of bravery, an act that risks the person you say it to trying to shame you or harm you (or your family) in some way. 13 comments Leave a comment. Oct 13th, 2013 at 6:56 PM. A week later, Harley is doing much better. The antibiotics have done their job. The bite wounds have closed, and the flea irritations all over her body have scabbed over and subsided. Shes using her litterbox, and is resistant to taking her medicine, and tries to get out of the bathroom. Shes eating and drinking. And, shell jump up into my lap when I come in to spend time with her, and sprawl bonelessly across my lap, kneading her paws as I brush her or pet her.

Cookies... - Life Among The Prevailing Westerlies

Life Among The Prevailing Westerlies. Dec 2nd, 2013 at 11:10 PM. Every time I think that it cant get any busier something else comes along. Last week the girls were on break. The house got, um, very lived in. Tomorrow is cleaning lady day. I expected to spend a quiet day doing pick-up-and-put-away while the girls were at school. Ha Ha I stopped to glance through my e-maill while I was looking for an address. And I found a reminder about the holiday cookie exchange at the Girl Scout meetting this evening.

Hugo Packet - The Wrong Way to Wright. May 20th, 2015 at 9:03 AM. I am really bouncing hard off of John C. Wright's novellas. For One Bright Star to Guide Them. I'm baffled by the attitude to magic. Robertson, our first character, hasn't thought of magic for years, yet the instant he sees a black cat he's all magic! What somebody was wearing to the person wearing it? For The Plural of Helen of Troy. Maggie The Tank. I don't like anybody I've met in Troy. Pale Realms of Shade. Suffers from a similar probl...

May 13th, 2015 at 9:24 AM. Apropos of nothing, I found myself thinking about diversity in fiction. One of the arguments against having non Straight White Males in fiction, especially historical fiction, is that the non-SWMs are "not representative" of the era. Well, here's a fact - prior to the arrival of the Industrial Revolution in any given society, 90% of the population was engaged in subsistence agriculture. They were farmers and herdsmen, poor and living hand-to-mouth. Everybody else. In short, any...

So where is this going? - Sunt Lacrimae Rerum
http://jsburbidge.livejournal.com/68480.html
So where is this going? April 25th, 2015. So where is this going? So where is the whole Sad/Rabid Puppy thing going? The talk is unlikely to die down in nine, or even ninety-nine days (which would still not quite get us quite to Worldcon), although I suspect that there will be no tales of Mad Puppy vanishing in a puff of petulance and returning with a bag of slates of candidates to hand out to grateful children. That being said, will this end up being more than a tempest in a teapot? Are not very sanguine.

I am having a dilemma with the Hugos. It's not the Sad Puppies thing - I'm starting from. S position on that. I intend to read and vote fairly. I ask and expect that of everyone, and I demand it of myself. This is what leads to my problem. By fairly, I mean, "Read or Watch or Listen to ALL of the entries in any category for which you will cast a vote. Then, vote for the one you consider the best.". But, I didn't feel comfortable voting in that category, so I didn't. I have never read anything by Robert J...

Powered by LiveJournal.com. Not physical, though I'd love to if I could take my children with me. Since that ain't happening soon, and because LJ is being a dick one time too many even for me. So, for the people who want to find me, you can likely find me there instead of here. And since the hardest part of establishing myself there is getting a friendslist set up out of nothing instead of here where I've assembled a fairly large one piece by piece, if you'd like to be on. Same as it is here. I have the ...
