A Caversham Garden

Growing food in a town garden. Wednesday, 12 August 2015. Tea Bag Index (TBI) UK. There are several experiments running across the world and Sarah put out a call for people to participate in the UK project. The lawn was not an option for me. We do have a small patch of grass but the tea bags have to be buried about 3 inches deep and at 1.5 inches under our lawn you hit builders rubble! So, I decided to put the first pair in the middle of my herb patch. I don't add any compost or fertiliser to this ar...

A Caversham Garden: September 2013

http://www.cavershamgarden.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Growing food in a town garden. Saturday, 7 September 2013. Harvest 2013 - what's grown and what hasn't. Slightly leaning tower of runner beans! Pests, in general, have had minimal impact here with the exception of the turnip sawfly, which chomped its way through most of my sprouting broccoli seedlings ( http:/ cavershamgarden.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/die-sawfly-die.html. Last year. A couple of friends have said that its effect lasts into the the second year and sometimes longer. I planted these out too ear...

A Caversham Garden: April 2014

http://www.cavershamgarden.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Growing food in a town garden. Monday, 28 April 2014. Sunday lunch from the garden. Yesterday's Sunday lunch - a risotto - was mostly from the garden. Apart form the rice, salt and pepper everything came from overwintered vegetables and new spring growth. Beginning to bolt but there are still plenty of leaves and stems from last year's sowing. The autumn sown spring onions survived well in the mild winter and are now reading for picking. Links to this post. Monday, 21 April 2014. Comfrey has a deep tapro...

A Caversham Garden: July 2015

http://www.cavershamgarden.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Growing food in a town garden. Sunday, 26 July 2015. Squashes popping up everywhere. A lot of squash plants have been popping up all over the garden. They've mostly come from seeds that have germinated from our compost made out of our kitchen peelings and discarded squash seeds, so we haven't a clue what most most of them are. This one could possibly be a butternut but I'm not totally convinced yet. And there are a lot more dotted around the garden including a definite butternut squash. Links to this post.
