After more than nine decades of crowing the sun up. Saturday, November 08, 2003. This was not one of my finest of weeks. I cannot imagine how families cope when there are other children to consider, and when jobs have been lost. Not sure what happens to people when the cost of living has spiraled out of control and both parents must work outside the home in order to put food on the table, and one of their youngsters is disabled. What does it mean - that 627% rise in Autism since 1987? With short-term eve...

After more than nine decades of crowing the sun up. Friday, November 14, 2003. Lessons learned that summer . Introduced me to segregation in ways that probably color my attitude today. A strange summer, most of which defied understanding - and still does. Posted by Betty Reid Soskin @ 9:03 AM. Thursday, November 13, 2003. Been thinking that I'd like to tell you. About my introduction to southern bigotry. It was when I was about fifteen, I believe. The party was on! I can remember thinking about that expe...

After more than nine decades of crowing the sun up. Sunday, April 26, 2015. My first great grandchild, Patrick Kayden Hebert is now capable of these morning conversations with his Mommy as you can see . . And I'm serving notice on the nation that I'll give y'all about a dozen years to get your act together enough so that these chats don't have to consist of warnings of how to act should he encounter problems with authority, "keep your hands always in sight! Twice, and I. Even read the book!

After more than nine decades of crowing the sun up. Saturday, December 13, 2003. Okay, so I've been out on sick leave since the Thanksgiving holiday. Miserable stuff, this flu. Get your shots, guys. This one doesn't fool around. And - as an elder, I should have known better, but being invincible is my thing, and I figured I'd manage to dodge this bullet, too. Not so. Decked! So much is happening! Posted by Betty Reid Soskin @ 10:42 AM. The Betty Soskin Pages. Rosie Reid Funk and CreoleRox Jewelry.

After more than nine decades of crowing the sun up. Saturday, November 01, 2003. Lordy . Philip Roth has done a retread on "Imitation of Life. Complete with Anthony Hopkins playing Peola. Guess " The Human Stain". But it does lead into telling you a bit about Dad:. Skip now to the Great Depression:. Dad had a few years in Detroit before news came of his father's death. Upon returning home to care for his mother, he joined his brothers in a rice mill that was a family enterprise. When that was des...On th...

After more than nine decades of crowing the sun up. Wednesday, May 20, 2015. I've wondered just when the public attention would begin to creep into front row center . And now it has. Pretending it away has ceased to work, I think, and here it is and I suppose the only way to deal with it is to acknowledge its existence. And, yes, I know you're there, but how I feel about it is still unclear . . I knew the magic. I've seen the noted Yosemite Park ranger, Shelton Johnson, reenacting the Buffalo soldier rol...

After more than nine decades of crowing the sun up. Saturday, October 25, 2003. Saturdays have become writing days, but this one got away from me. Spent the earlier part of the day not. Having disappointed myself, it was impossible to use the time for anything else. Silly, of course. But it's now 4:38 pm and I'm just now getting to my computer. Did penance, instead, I suppose. The planets are obviously out of alignment. How on earth could they know what they'd done? Kept her on another line so she could ...

After more than nine decades of crowing the sun up. Saturday, October 18, 2003. Songs I wrote and performed for the sound track of the prize-winning filmed documentary, "Farallon Light," by San Francisco filmmaker, Charles Petersen . . Hear my wind song, hear the gulls cry. Watch the storm race through. Restless reeds writhe . waves weave madness! Blackness steals the blue. Here I stand in winter's wildness. Sea and sand are mine! Take them storm, if you trust my mildness. Now sun, now! Hear my wind song .

After more than nine decades of crowing the sun up. Monday, November 24, 2003. I'm having a difficult time moving into the suburban years . It's all led to this. I'm now living in the future I hoped I'd live to see, and for which I was preparing. Strange, isn't it? I do know that I moved into my Eleanor Roosevelt/Fanny Lou Hamer period at a time when a little Martha Stewart would have been a lot more desirable for my family! Just who do you suppose established that? Posted by Betty Reid Soskin @ 6:14 PM.
