CCN Summer 2010

Thursday, September 23, 2010. September, last course closure of the year. October is almost here and to be honest, I'm glad! Here is what the results of "pot holing" tell me. Not enough sand, need to add. Just the right amount. After the depth of sand is checked, the crew moves in fix the problem. It might be as simple moving the existing sand around, such as here where the sand rake enters and exits the bunker. Well the resulting swing, if done correctly, usually makes a lot of sand fly out with the ball.

CCN Summer 2010: August 31, the dawg days of summer are here!!!

http://www.ccnsummer2010.blogspot.com/2010/08/august-31-dawg-days-of-summer-are-here.html

Tuesday, August 31, 2010. August 31, the dawg days of summer are here! We are officially in the Dawg days of Summer! Its almost oppressive outside and that gives me all the more respect for my staff for not only enduring, but pressing harder because I asked them to. Although we have received enough rain to float Noah's ark in the last 3 weeks, the staff has made great progress preparing for the upcoming season. We trim the trees. We haul trimmings and any other horticultural waste to my shop. We've also ...

CCN Summer 2010: August Aerification Week

http://www.ccnsummer2010.blogspot.com/2010/08/august-aerification-week.html

Tuesday, August 24, 2010. The answer is that its all about managing the build up. Here is a pic of a typical green's profile on our course. Notice the brown stuff or mat layer just below the grass. This is what we were missing last year when the course reopened, its the cushion that makes the greens receptive and can only be had with a little bit of age. Here's a pic.notice how much material is flying out of the machine. As you can see, aggressive might be an understatement! Now here is a pic of a soil p...

CCN Summer 2010: Friday August 13, 2010

http://www.ccnsummer2010.blogspot.com/2010/08/friday-august-13-2010.html

Friday, August 13, 2010. Friday August 13, 2010. Right now, the local weather man has the easiest job on the plant. Its almost as if I'm seeing a repeat of the same news cast every evening. Its the typical late summer forecast.you know the one where he says "Today's weather is going to be hot and sticky with a huge chance of rain! It is not uncommon when it rains for the course to get 1-3" of rain per episode, and when the recent tropical storm went by, that was everyday for almost a week. To correct the...

CCN Summer 2010: June 2010

http://www.ccnsummer2010.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 28, 2010. We have begun our typical summer rain pattern. Glorious mornings, heats up fast, cloudy afternoons, and rains in the late afternoon.YEAHHHHHHHHH! As you may recall from the last posting, even though it was summer water was in short supply. Now, Mother Nature is lending a helping hand. A couple of days ago I was asked about our green's verti-cutting process. The person had seen it happening while playing, but didn't understand what all the machines were doing. Take a look at...I tho...

The Country Club of Naples Golf Maintenance Blog. Monday, October 27, 2014. Butterflies are pollenatars too. The Operation Pollinator signs are to bring awareness to secondary benefits of what the Club does. The beds are beautiful, but they are also playing an important role in the environment. Remember, butterflies are also pollenatars and they love the same nectar as the bees. Tuesday, October 14, 2014. Monday, October 13, 2014. Operation Pollinator is a go. The Country Club of Naples Golf Maintenance Blog. Monday, May 11, 2015. Reciprocal season is here, that means its time to aerify. Summer reciprocal season is here and that means right around the corner is also summer aerification season. I know aerification is a four lettered dirty word, but it is essential to maintaining our exceptional playability year after year. The Country Club of Naples Golf Maintenance Blog: May 2015

http://ccnmaintenance.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

The Country Club of Naples Golf Maintenance Blog. Tuesday, May 26, 2015. Expanding to meet demand. One thing that is perfectly clear at "THE" Country Club of Naples is the members love to play golf. In the same vein, they love to practice as well. One improvement being done this summer to help more people practice better is the redesign of the chipping area. He focus of the renovation plan is to provide more area to chip from, not make the green bigger. Notice how little of the putting surface you an see...

The Country Club of Naples Golf Maintenance Blog: It's get'n hot

http://ccnmaintenance.blogspot.com/2015/04/it-get-hot.html

The Country Club of Naples Golf Maintenance Blog. Wednesday, April 8, 2015. With temperatures getting in the low 90's in full sun, it's time to start changing how things are done a little bit. That includes watering the course. Instead of turning on sprinklers and watering areas that do not need the extra water, Pierre is hand watering just the localized dry spots. It's a lot more labor intensive but has 100% efficiency. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Want to get an email when the blog is updated?

The Country Club of Naples Golf Maintenance Blog: November 2014

http://ccnmaintenance.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

The Country Club of Naples Golf Maintenance Blog. Friday, November 28, 2014. Cool weather.course holding up. All of this means the green are going to increase in speed as the metabolic response to the cold slows the grass growth on the putting surfaces. When the putting greens turn slightly purple-ish in color, you'll know they're fast. They turn off color due to the stop in production of the green chlorophyll in the leaf. Monday, November 17, 2014.
