Central Vermont Railway: A glimpse into my modeling past
http://centralvermontrailway.blogspot.com/2013/01/a-glimpse-into-my-modeling-past.html
Thursday, January 17, 2013. A glimpse into my modeling past. Both models in the lead photo are posed on the layout I had in my parent’s basement. This is also the only picture I have of that layout, which remained in my folks basement for many years after I moved out. Central Vermont Railway: Layout-At-A-Glance
http://centralvermontrailway.blogspot.com/p/layout-at-glance.html
I figured it was time I published a brief description of the layout using the familiar Model Railroader Magazine style "Layout-At-A-Glance" format. Roxbury Subdivision of Central Vermont Railway. White River Junction – Richmond, VT (not all towns modeled). 15 x 48 with a stub ended staging yard in the utility room. Around the walls with center peninsula. Cork, trimmed to width of ties. Primarily Micro Engineering Code 70 w/#6 turnouts – with some Peco Code 83 curved turnouts. Mainline Run (approx.):.
Central Vermont Railway: Generic Industries - 2
http://centralvermontrailway.blogspot.com/2015/05/generic-industries-2.html
Sunday, May 3, 2015. Generic Industries - 2. Managed to get the Walther Clayton County Lumber kit painted - roofs have the initial coat of paint but need to be secured in place, as do the doors. In the third photo you can see how much real estate is available for the "second" industrial building. I think the Clayton Lumber kit, which I will finish and detail as a building supply distributor, fits this spot nicely. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). CP - Bachmann S-2. Central Vermont Railway: Painted or Photo mural backdrops?
http://centralvermontrailway.blogspot.com/2014/12/painted-or-photo-mural-backdrops.html
Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Painted or Photo mural backdrops? Same section of layout - one with my initial attempt at a painted backdrop, the other (below) with a commercial photo backdrop that has had the "sky" cut away. Yes, it's a question that divides otherwise peace-loving and agreeable model railroaders into two warring camps - do we use photos for a backdrop or go with a painted image? Painting an effective backdrop is a skill - and a talent. It can be mastered but it's not easy. One of the most t...
Central Vermont Railway: Southern New England RS-3
http://centralvermontrailway.blogspot.com/2015/05/southern-new-england-rs-3.html
Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Southern New England RS-3. As I mentioned in the previous post, I've been working on three different projects over the last few weeks as time, interest, and available materials dictate. One of these is to at long last get some of the "orphan" locomotives (I have engines on the layout painted for everything from Reading to B&O to Erie, to Western Pacific…) into more appropriate colors. I apply the same rule to the diesel fleet that I do to the steam locomotive roster. This is a terr...

Modeling Steam Era Freight Cars: One Man's Roster*
http://steamerafreightcars.blogspot.com/2014/10/one-mans-roster.html
About The Steam Era Freightcars Blog. This blog discusses all aspects of North American freight cars of the steam era, from the dawn of railroading through 1960. It is intended to support the efforts of model railroaders who wish to produce the most prototypically accurate freight cars possible. The nature of blogging means the material can be "real time," and in-process models can be shared. These are not only welcomed, but appreciated as we all love to see a model develop over time. I plan to do someth...

Friday, July 31, 2015. Fun Stuff Friday - Ballasting. I know, I know, you don't usually associate ballasting with "fun," do you? Well, you're clearly doing it wrong! Check out the video below for proof:. Having trouble spreading and tamping the ballast on your model railroad? Tiny rocks getting everywhere, except where you want them? Lots of itsy bits left on top of the ties? Try using an orbital sander to vibrate those little grains and nestle them snugly in-between the ties, where they belong! Here's (...
