The Waste Sector in the Byron Shire can be broadly described as comprising four streams:. The Waste group has been collecting baseline emissions data for the region. The organic and sewage waste s. Treams generate the largest amount of emissions. The major focus for the waste group will therefore be the diversion of organics waste from landfill. The ZEB energy group aims to reduce stationary emissions in Byron Shire to zero by 2025, mostly through locally produced and traded renewable energy. The prime focus in the development stage is the assessment of baseline emissions, through both electricity consumption and use of LPG. The team is reviewing agricultural and horticultural land use practises, with the aim of finding the best way to increase sustainability and sequester carbon while reducing CO2 and methane production.
