The Prosperity of the Wicked. Surely God is good to Israel,. To those who are pure in heart! But as for me, my feet came close to stumbling,. My steps had almost slipped. For I was envious of the arrogant. As I saw the prosperity of the wicked. For there are no pains in their death,. And their body is fat. They are not in trouble as other men,. Nor are they plagued like mankind. Therefore pride is their necklace;. The garment of violence covers them. Their eye bulges from fatness;. They speak from on high.

I have been young and now I am old,. Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken. Or his descendants begging bread. When you consider the work that you do, you need to ask yourself these questions. What value do I create? How does this value serve the needs of others? And is my compensation fair relative to that contribution? As I said, the world is not fair. But you should still do hard work and be honest. Why? The Craft Beer Bubble. The Cult of the Open Mind. The advocates of tolerance are only tolerant...

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The cultural egalitarian does not believe in beauty. The true, the good, and the beautiful are subjective things. The individual becomes the measure of all things instead of God. As I have written elsewhere. A winner is a cheater that never got caught. What do you tell your kids?

These are various tips for living better. They are in no particular order. They work for me, and I hope they work for you. 1 Always be doing. The chief reason people don't get things done is because of idleness. Aim to never be idle. Use every waking minute of every day. You will fail on this, but you will still get a lot of stuff off of your To Do list. 2 Have a Plan of Life. Readings from the Scriptures. Daily Mass (if you can swing it). Readings from saints and other Catholic books. 3 Use commute time.

The Most Valuable Life Skill. Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.”. In life, you need many skills to survive and thrive. A work ethic is one. Brains are another. Fortitude is a key one. But if I had to pick one that is the most valuable it would be this. You have to have or develop the ability to remove bad people from your life. The measure of a person in your life is simple. Does this person make me better? Or, does this person make me worse? You bet. That is how it should be wit...

This should be called Frequently Asked Dumb Questions. I answer them here. Q: Why do you not have a Netflix membership? I had a Netflix membership for a couple of years, but I found that at a certain point I was just paying $12 or so per month for a coaster for the coffee table. I found it cheaper to just pay full price for the 2 good movies Hollywood makes each year. I prefer reading books to watching videos. Q: Where do you get your protein? Q: Where can I find you on Facebook? Managers are rats, and I...

The Discipline of Faith. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. My hero in faith is my wife who has more reasons than I to doubt the existence of God and His goodness. Yet, she is strong where I am weak. I suspect that this is why God put us together. Everything that follows is her advice on having faith. The Discipline of Prayer. My favorite story from the Bible about prayer comes from the Book of Daniel:. The Discipline of Work. What I have always taught, over the last forty y. It doesn't tak...

The God of Indifference. And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us. . . In a previous essay. Are the deists right? This is one of those packed Greek words deep in meaning, but we can see it as essentially the deist god. The logos. Was the ordering principle of the universe that even the gods had to obey. We can also call it reason. St John took on this doctrine of the logos. In his Gospel in the first lines. We translate logos. Was with God, and the logos. Clearly, Judaism did not teach this and woul...

Above all shadows rides the Sun. Love is shown more in deeds than in words. ST IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA. There is nobody that is willing to eat even a lifeless and a dead thing even as it is; so they boil it, and roast it, and alter it by fire and medicines, as it were, changing and quenching the slaughtered gore with thousands of sweet sauces, that the palate being thereby deceived may admit of such uncouth fare. Make yourself a stranger to the world's activities. ST FRANCIS DE SALES. ST ALPHONSUS MARIA DE LI...
