Encounters with women in Irish theatre history. 71 – The Mystery Authoress. July 6, 2015. July 7, 2015. CAPTAIN. She was never taught to play games that’s her trouble. MARCO A woman need only learn to play one game. That isn’t a typo in the second line; the authoress included six period marks. She perhaps knew that the line of dialogue was too risqué for the stage of the Abbey Theatre. The prompt book shows a heavy pencil line drawn right through it. But who was this cheeky authoress? Pointing out that a...

Encounters with women in Irish theatre history. 72 – Drawing Battle Lines. December 5, 2015. December 18, 2015. My Cumann na mBan brooch glittered all day, particularly bright in the dull rain. Since 2009, I’ve been excavating the lives of women working in the National Theatre through the first half of the century. I’ve countless examples of their mistreatment in the theatre, and elsewhere. adventures in italy (and other musings)
I'm a college sophomore studying abroad in Florence, Italy. I like art and history. And writing. And food. And sometimes just getting caught up in the wonder of life. Saturday, May 2, 2015. Ci Vediamo Dopo, Firenze. April 30, 2014. Teacups and statues, costume jewelry and old postcards and World War II relics. The only issue was the price: 120 Euros! Yikes But, all hope was not lost: as I knew well by now, the posted price on a stall is rarely the price at which it is sold! Rdquo; just like always. Lovin...

July 28, 2015. July 28, 2015. One year and eight countries later, we are heading to another new city, excited to learn to call it home.
