Organic Chemistry: FUNCTIONAL GROUPS. Functional groups are certain groups of atoms within a molecule which determine the characteristics of that particular molecule. They are the most reactive part of the molecule. Also, the same functional groups go through similar if not same chemical reactions whether the same size or not. But it's reactivity can change as a result of nearby functional groups. Contain the -OH functional group. Are organic and form on saturated carbons. Are found in alcoholic drinks.
