Spatulas at Dawn: May 2010
http://spatulasatdawn.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 25 May 2010. I've made two different spice cakes recently. The first was the Black Pepper Spice cake (see recipe below) from my favourite. I've made this before and knew the intended recipient was a fan of black pepper so made it again. I often feel like it's a bit of a cop-out using a recipe I've tried before when baking; there are so many recipes out there to try, why resort to something you've made before? I also made this. Spiced Brown Sugar Carrot Loaf. Black Pepper and Spice Cake. For the ...

Cornstore Café: July 2010
http://cornstorecafe.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Baking exploits in Wild West Wales! Saturday, 10 July 2010. The new 'Rebecca's Riot' tea from the Pembrokeshire Tea Company. Has inspired us to make a similarly elegant cake to accompany it. The tea soaked sultanas keep the cake moist and tea makes the icing the colour of vintage oyster satin. Dried cornflower petals. Add interest (but not a lot of flavour). Pot of Rebecca's Riot tea (strong). 250g golden caster sugar. 250g self raising flour. 4 large free range eggs. 300g sieved icing sugar. So far it h...

Cornstore Café: April 2009
http://cornstorecafe.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Baking exploits in Wild West Wales! Monday, 20 April 2009. The annual Good Friday 'will they or won't they rise in time for me to sell them' quandry! Here are some buns waiting to go into the oven. Wenty minutes later hot, hot cross buns! The basic recipe I used was from Delicious magazine, you can find it here;-. Http:/ www.deliciousmagazine.co.uk/blogs/How To make hot cross buns 249. The Cornstore Easter tree! Nigella Lawson's Lemon Meringue Cake. It's the Cornstore so there has to be a cheesecake, and...

Cornstore Café: April 2010
http://cornstorecafe.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Baking exploits in Wild West Wales! Sunday, 4 April 2010. Despite the awful wintery weather Easter is here and some new bakes have joined the roll call of springtime favourites. I have never made a proper simnel cake before, always do a cupcake version instead. This was lovely! Really moist with sherry soaked fruit and the marzipan layer. Controversially I put all twelve apostles on top - mainly because I wanted twelve portions! No hot cross buns this year as it was too cold for the dough to rise. 9829;P...

The Diary of an Unaccomplished Cook: Pot Roast Chicken in Milk
http://unaccomplishedcook.blogspot.com/2015/02/pot-roast-chicken-in-milk.html
The Diary of an Unaccomplished Cook. Tuesday, 17 February 2015. Pot Roast Chicken in Milk. Ok, this is another Jamie Oliver recipe. But why not - they always work and are usually pretty simple to make. This one is no exception. From only a few ingredients and a fabulous fragrant dish is produced. 1 chicken, I had a small one but it still did 4 meals. 1 pt semi skimmed milk. 1/2 a cinnamon stick. Bunch of fresh sage leaves. Zest of 2 lemons. 8-10 cloves of garlic, leave the skin on. Welcome to my cooking ...

The Diary of an Unaccomplished Cook: November 2013
http://unaccomplishedcook.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
The Diary of an Unaccomplished Cook. Tuesday, 5 November 2013. Now Autumn has hit with a vengeance, it is time to roll out the soups! Here is my take on the Tuscan favourite - Ribollita. It can be made with a wide range of veg and beans, whatever you have to hand, I don't think there is a hard and fast rule on this. Instead of pouring the soup over a hunk of stale bread to thicken the soup I have a couple of slices on the side with butter. My Take on Ribollita. Serves two as a main or 4 as a starter.
