Cheryl Okimoto: The Doubter's Prayer
http://cherylokimoto.blogspot.com/2012/04/doubters-prayer.html
Monday, April 2, 2012. I've often heard people quote the verse in James that says to not doubt when you pray, "when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, . That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord" (1:6, 7). I've been taught that this means that when you pray for something and don't get it, it's because you're doubting. I've got a problem with that interpretation because I don't think it takes into account: "Lord, I believe. Help my unbelief! So what was Jesus' problem? Yes he d...

Cheryl Okimoto: July 2011
http://cherylokimoto.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 27, 2011. I decided to return the favor, so I asked her to show me just one verse anywhere in the bible where it said we have a "heavenly mother." She said she'd given me the proofs; I told her that she'd taken a few passages out of context. I asked her and her friend if they were willing to put their beliefs to the test. She said she had no need to. I said I wasn't afraid to test my beliefs and if she or her friend wanted to come back and explore the bible with me to see who's be...Have ...

Cheryl Okimoto: November 2011
http://cherylokimoto.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Wednesday, November 16, 2011. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. But that's just the start! Yesterday we arrived in Springfield, Missouri where daughter Cari and her excitable Golden Retriever, Lego, were happy to see us. The weather was warm but overcast. This morning it's sunny but cold. Go figure! What we see and do is limited only to God's leading and our willingness to follow. We expect to have some wonderful adventures, made even more fun by the long drives between! It warmed ...

Cheryl Okimoto: September 2011
http://cherylokimoto.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Friday, September 30, 2011. The Last September 2011 Day. It's the last day of September 2011! That's rather monumental. As my freshman algebra teacher said, "If there's anything you wanted to do in September (year omitted), you better do it today. It's going to be gone forever.". Have you ever thought about how many 'lasts' have passed you by without being noted? You can easily remember the last time you said "I love you" to a loved one when you watched them take their last breath, and were aware that it...

Cheryl Okimoto: March 2012
http://cherylokimoto.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 29, 2012. Do you ever get frustrated by life? Silly question, isn't it? Of course you do! We all do. We get frustrated by our spouses, our kids, our jobs, even by our own behavior. Now don't try to tell me that you don't sometimes step back and wonder, "Why did I do that? If you do, you're in good company. The Apostle Paul said he found himself doing the things he didn't want to do (Romans 7:15). Sometimes I catch myself telling myself things like, "You should know better! We share in his...

Cheryl Okimoto: August 2011

Wednesday, August 31, 2011. A Broken Clay Pot. A friend of mine gave me a very interesting analogy for her life. She said she was like a clay pot that had been broken. All the bigger pieces can be glued back together again, but some of that pot has been shattered to dust. It can't be retrieved and glued back in with the rest. I really like that analogy, especially if you take it one step further. The only role the pot has to play is to submit to the Potter's hands. If the pot resists, it will continu...

Cheryl Okimoto: October 2011
http://cherylokimoto.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Wednesday, October 12, 2011. Moving is one of those things that's bittersweet. There's so much to do before you go. Not only do you have to sort and pack, but you have to resort and repack when you have to ship across the ocean. It's way easier to move when you can back a moving van up to your door and start throwing stuff in it. The worst thing about moving is the people you leave behind, and the things that you don't get finished. There's too much to do and not enough time. Saturday, October 8, 2011.

Cheryl Okimoto: December 2011
http://cherylokimoto.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 9, 2011. Timing is everything on stage, but it's way too variable in real life. On the other hand, Thursday morning, my husband's birthday, we woke up to discover that the furnace wasn't working. It was 61 degrees in the house, way too cold for the comfort of two people who moved from Hawaii just over a month ago. Turns out it was the igniter which goes out about every five years. Mom moved into this house five years ago. Timing. Does it show God's favor or his disfavor?
