Chess for Heroes

Sunday, 16 November 2014. 2014 World Championship Games 4-6. The fourth and fifth games of the World Championship match between Magnus Carlsen and Vishy Anand saw two hard fought but relatively uneventful draws, leaving the match still level at 2½ point each. The sixth game yesterday, however, saw some real drama and an extraordinary double oversight. Carlsen, playing White, had some advantage but, as the annotations from The Week in Chess. My latest Chess Improver. 2014 World Championship Game 3. If you...

Chess for Heroes: October 2014

http://www.chessforheroes.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, 26 October 2014. My latest Chess Improver blog post. Looks at why chess, at least here in the UK, has such a poor image, and asks if this is one reason why parents and schools don't want their children to excel at chess. Sunday, 19 October 2014. World Junior Championships and European Youth Championships 2014. Although there are a few notable exceptions, schools in this country always seem to have excuses not to provide a good chess service for their pupils. Friday, 17 October 2014. The Baku FIDE...

Sunday, 16 November 2014. 2014 World Championship Game 3. Game 3 (apologies for the delayed posting) saw Vishy Anand equalise after some deep opening preparation. He reached a favourable position with a strong pawn on c7 which proved too difficult for Carlsen to defend. Here's the game, with annotations taken from The Week in Chess. http://www.chessforheroes.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, 28 September 2014. My latest Chess Improver blog post, which you can read here. Considers how parents, not wanting their children to have what might possibly be a bad experience, are reluctant to encourage children to take chess seriously: it MIGHT be too hard, too boring, too tiring or too stressful. Monday, 22 September 2014. Final scores from Bilbao. Final scores: Anand 11, Aronian 10, Ponomarov and Vallejo Pons 5. Friday, 19 September 2014. Thursday, 18 September 2014. This event is using foo...

Chess Courses for Kids in Twickenham

As there has been insufficient interest, we are not expecting to run public chess courses for beginners in the Twickenham area during 2013-14. We can, however, help your children's school to set up courses, either on the curriculum or as an after-school or lunchtime club. We also provide a full range of materials to enable parents to teach their children chess at home. If you want your children to learn chess the first thing you should do is read my new book The Right Way to Teach Chess to Kids.
