Chicago Gardeners: Garden Girl

http://chicagogardeners.blogspot.com/2009/01/garden-girl.html

I'm a native Chicago northsider and long-time south suburban resident. A passionate life-long gardener, I grew up in a gardening, farming family, helping tend the humongous organic vegetable garden and ornamental plants of my childhood home, spending time on my grandparents' farm in the Missouri Ozarks, and visiting the Nebraska farm our family has owned for generations. Chicago Gardeners: About Chicago Gardeners

http://chicagogardeners.blogspot.com/2009/06/about-chicago-gardeners.html

In the winter and spring of 2009 an organizing committee consisting of five Chicagoland garden bloggers was formed and organized an event called Chicago Spring Fling. It was a gathering of garden bloggers from across the country. The archive for the event can be found here. For several of us this was the first time we had met in person. After the event we decided we wanted to keep in touch with each other and meet more of our Chicagoland garden bloggers. Chicago Gardeners Flickr Pool. Follow me on Twitter.

Chicago Gardeners: Sweet Home And Garden Chicago

http://chicagogardeners.blogspot.com/2009/01/sweet-home-and-garden-chicago_17.html

Sweet Home And Garden Chicago. I'm a transplant from Sweet Home Alabama. Except for the long, cold Chicago winters I love Sweet Home Chicago, thus the name of my blog. I grew up on a farm in rural Northern Alabama where we were green before it was cool. We grew almost everything we ate including the chickens, pork and beef. That's about the best master gardening course that I know of -rigorous on-the-job-training starting at around age 10. I'm kind of opinionated and some would even say sassy. I blam...

Gardener in a Forest: February 2013

Thursday, February 28, 2013. 2013 Plant Wish List. One thing that helps me get through winter is keeping a wish list of all of the plants I want to purchase in the spring. I visit my plant supplier often throughout the season to pick up plants for clients, and always add in a few for myself. Here are some of the plants I'm dreaming of now. Obelisk'. Photo credit. Obelisk' (Amelanchier First Editions Standing Ovation Serviceberry). Golden Guinea' (Japanese Rose). Another 'gardener's plant,'. Is another ra...

Gardener in a Forest: June 2013

http://tinakoralgardens.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 20, 2013. It's been over a month since I've posted last. A month! I know my thousands. Of readers are on the edge of their seats, wondering what life has been like for us over this last month, right? Truth is, I'm feeling a bit of a disconnect from this blog. Most of my content is inspired by my own gardens, and I currently don't have one. And most importantly, squeezing in play dates and dinners with good friends (even though I keep reminding them that we will not be that. I don't even wa...

Gardener in a Forest: February 2014

http://tinakoralgardens.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, February 16, 2014. The New Potager - Gathering Ideas. As winter keeps dragging on, my thoughts turn to spring and growing fresh, organic produce at home. These cold, gray days are perfect for dragging out the gardening books and putting a plan together. You might remember my potager (kitchen garden) at the old house. And got to work listing selections. 3 Borders - Wood timbers for the raised bed, and landscaping stone for the ground-level beds. 4 Structure - In addition to the fence and gate/arbo...

Gardener in a Forest: May 2014

http://tinakoralgardens.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 13, 2014. The New Potager - Preparing the Space. The first order of business was to remove the existing shrubs, a million and a half daylilies, about 975 square feet of grass, and an entire bluestone patio. Whew. I'm exhausted just thinking about those long hours of labor. Luckily, the hubby was able to use some vacation days to knock most of this out, along with a couple of lingering inside projects. We were also pleased to find some treasure back in the corner of the lot. Links to this post.

Gardener in a Forest: July 2014

http://tinakoralgardens.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Tuesday, July 29, 2014. The New Potager: The Big Reveal! I'm so happy to finally share pics of the garden! However, we're not quite finished (always the gardener's lament)! We are still researching what material to use for the "floor." I'm so glad we did not go with decomposed granite, as it surely would have washed away in the heavy rains we had early in the season. I need a larger stone with more staying power, and will post when we decide and lay it down. Anyhow, here is how it looks today. So tell me...

Horto in Urbs

Sunday, November 7, 2010. Awhile back, I planted a stick in the ground that Henry Field's assured me was a Sweet Sixteen apple sapling. I was dubious it would turn into anything, because it was only about 18 inches long and not much bigger in diameter than a #2 pencil. I am pleased to report that it not only survived, but it's done pretty well:. Links to this post. Tuesday, November 2, 2010. The Greenhouse is Up. The greenhouse is up and functional. A casual look at gardening in the north suburbs of Chicago and a look at our local CSA and Farmers' Market. Wednesday, April 7, 2010. Rain, Rain, and SNOW. Well this week has been rain and more rain. We have had some thunderstorms and now I hear that tonight and possibly tomorrow we might see some snow. Well after our 80 degree days I thought for sure that our chances of snow were gone, but I guess I was wrong. Here is wishing for slightly warmer weather. Tuesday, April 6, 2010.
