Cholent Mix: Velvel's cholent philosophy
http://cholentmix.blogspot.com/2004/11/velvels-cholent-philosophy.html
Cholent Mix is written by cholent enthusiastas for cholent enthusiasts. Sunday, November 21, 2004. There are four necessary ingredients in my cholent. If any of these are missing, it's not cholent. I prefer the addition of the following ingredients, but WeightWatchers. Dietary restrictions, spicy-heat tolerance and common sense of my wife. Maple syrup or honey. All of my cholent preferences are subject to change per cholent as ingredient availability or my whim sees fit. Posted by zevbrokeit 11/21/2004.

A man in the middle. Tuesday, November 09, 2004. When last we saw Adam Ragil,. He was approaching the lecturn. At a meeting of the shteeble membership. At this point, I was interrupted for the first or second time. Among the objections from the crowd: We had face-to-face seating in the shuls we grew up in. There's nothing wrong with it. It's not disrespectful. We turned out fine, didn't we? I demanded silence. We've banished whiskey from the shul. Saw his opening "Let's ask the rabbi," he called in his b...

A man in the middle. Saturday, July 17, 2004. Welcome to the blog. Welcome to my blog, baynonim. My neighborhood has two places to pray. One is a shteeble, the other is a shul. Though I'm a card-carrying Orthodox Jew, and an FFB besides, I don’t really belong at either place. I thought it might be fun to blog about the reasons. Posted by Adam Ragil : 11:20:00 PM 0 comments. A man in the middle. Thursday, October 21, 2004. My favorite magazine is having a baynonim moment of it's own. Up to Bush in the months immidiately following September 11, but now the editors have seen enough. Here is the money quote:. I'm not sold on Kerry, yet, but Bush is running out of time. If there are any Bush-supporters in the Readership, please raise your voices in the comment section. Posted by Adam Ragil : 4:06:00 PM. 1 of the many reasons to vote for Bush. A prominent Arafat aide who asked th...

A man in the middle. Tuesday, October 26, 2004. I promised a post on shul politics, I know, I know. I have a story to tell about whiskey, tables and chairs, but the muse is failing me. The words just aren't organizing themselves in my head or on the page. Here are the basic facts:. The shteeble has become a Whiskey-Free-Zone. Why? There's a connection here between the whiskey and the crowding in the shteeble, I just know it. By tomorrow, I hope to have found it. Posted by Adam Ragil : 1:31:00 PM. Eicha a...

A man in the middle. Saturday, July 24, 2004. Mincha at the Shteible. 15 minutes to shkia* and just 5 guys are in the house. I say my hellos, put down the groceries, and head to the shelf for a chumash. The gabbai is on his cell drumming up business. After a minute or two, a man walks in. 10 minutes to go. L is here, too, and he ambles on over. He sees that I am learning, but, after catching my eye and receiving a small nod, he starts talking. Three minutes left, three empty seats. Shkia is in two minutes!
