The House Next Door. Loyola Press’ Days of Deepening Friendship (DDF) Writing Retreat, Day 1. September 30, 2013. Loyola Press’ 3-Minute Retreat. LP3MR) has been my succour for many years now – through distress and just for my quotidian dose of meditation and spirituality. I used to follow Bo Sanchez’ Didache but somehow, I felt that the LP3MR suits me more. And today, I just saw about LP’s Online Writing Retreat. In this retreat is:. Summoning my senses, with God’s help. Here I go! I knelt to pray, and ...

The House Next Door. The baby crosses the Atlantic. September 8, 2013. So, she has taken four trips across the Pacific, and two domestic flights. Her 7th flight, completed on the of August 2013, is to the East of Ontario – crossing the Atlantic in the process. It was not one of our best flights. When we checked in, we were informed that while our tickets were booked by Egypt Air, there was no seats allocated for us and the flight is overbooked. Imagine our consternation! Arriving at Cairo past the curfew...

The House Next Door. Loyola Press’ Days of Deepening Friendship (DDF) Writing Retreat, Day 2. October 13, 2013. Boy, I was away from my computer for so long that it’s only today that I can do the second day of DDF Writing Retreat. Almost half a month later after my first day retreat entry. It is fitting however, I think, as I am a jumble of emotions for days now. And the second day’s theme is emotions. So as I pray for this day: “. Write about the first time, ever, you experienced bliss. The last time I ...

The House Next Door. Another attempt at it. August 14, 2013. Dear God of Creation,. But here I am Lord, right after coming from multiple mournings (actually an unfinished process yet), a super active baby who needs hugging, feeding and carrying all throughout the day, you made me, helped me, energised me to finish those 6 chapters! Whatever happens after this I totally surrender to you everything – my heart, whether it entails other revisions or my supervisors decide it’s the end. A man who never rests.

The House Next Door. Looking back at my 2013, Hello 2014. January 5, 2014. The year past was a year of travelling. Thrice a day long drop-ins to the NICU for much until mid-January and whole of the month prior. As young as 3 months, Baby Praeteritum (BP from now on, on this blog) has crossed the Pacific two-way, to see my Papa, which she had to repeat when she was 6 months for reasons that can not really be called a joyful reunion with my side of the family. What a ball of energy, despite the nightly mee...

The House Next Door. August 14, 2013. I don’t really recall whether I have provided enough support to a friend who lost a loved one before. Abbie is my best friend since college, and when her Papa died, I don’t think I was there everyday and until the end of the wake. I wish I was though. Friends I have not seen for years, or even heard from –. Pen K, Ria and Danny T., Dalisay S. Among them – came by to pay their respects to Papa and console our family. Friends who have been like family –. Luz C, Gerard C.
