Order of the Day. Special Force, The 2nd Chindit Expedition 1944. In August 1943 Churchill, Roosevelt and the Combined Chiefs of Staff met in Quebec at the Quadrant Conference to discuss future Allied strategy. Accompanying Churchill was Wingate. At the conference Wingate presented his plans on how Long Range Penetration brigades would march into Burma to disrupt enemy communications behind their front lines and prepare the way for the main forces to recapture north Burma. 77th Brigade (Brigadier Calvert).

Most of them joined the Burma Star Association. There has been an annual reunion weekend in York from 1982 until about 2005. Sadly there is now just a Memorial Service and Lunch each April. Despite the many weeks of close quarter fighting and the countless acts of bravery that took place, only 2 Victoria Crosses were awarded and both of these were posthumously.
