brewdog – Chris Hall | Beer

http://chrishallbeer.com/tag/brewdog

Craft People. Places. Stories. Culture. Recipe: Porter, Beef and Bacon Stew. I had doubts about posting this hearty recipe today, given how the weather has massively improved recently, but apparently it will go back to cold, blustery rain soon, so you’ll be thanking me later. The below makes a portion for 1 person. So scale up as you wish:. 1 rasher smoked streaky bacon, chopped. 1 large shallot, finely chopped. 1 garlic clove, finely chopped. 1 carrot, chopped to roughly 1cm sq pieces. Thyme, small bunch.

Craft People. Places. Stories. Culture. Tag: World Beer Awards. Race To The Middle – What I learned judging at the World Beer Awards. Last month I was invited to judge at the yearly World Beer Awards, at which over 400 beers are submitted to the Europe panel alone. It was on the European judging panel that I learned an important lesson about the beer market, and the perils facing emerging craft brewers. In many ways, I don’t, or rather, I can’t, but when it comes to flavour and authenticity, ...There is ...

Dead or Alive: Are single-hopped beers still interesting? – Chris Hall | Beer

http://chrishallbeer.com/2015/04/20/dead-or-alive

Craft People. Places. Stories. Culture. Dead or Alive: Are single-hopped beers still interesting? The latest BrewDog IPA is Dead series sees another eclectic mix of craft beer favourites and up-and-coming new varieties: Mandarina Bavaria (a great potential Bond heroine name), classic US bitter monster Chinook, juicy Oz-German hybrid Ella and modern British hop Pioneer. Bitterness in the final beer – the reason why a 45 IBU pale ale can taste less bitter than a 45 IBU pilsner. Brewing each of th...10 thou...

Craft People. Places. Stories. Culture. The Complete Homebrew Handbook. The Complete Homebrew Handbook. Available from WHSmiths, a big Sainsbury’s, places with lots of magazines…. So there hasn’t been much going on the blog lately, and here’s why…. That notorious Cwrwaft Wanker Craig Heap. And I have written some features that have gone into this new one-shot magazine about homebrewing: The Complete Homebrew Handbook. I didn’t write any of that really interesting stuff, though. I just wrote som...The fin...

What to drink in Barcelona. Sunday, 12 October 2014. 7 Tweets Post #1. AJ deLange stated that as brewers progress in their careers, they learn quite a bit about malt, hops and yeast before acquiring a similar level of knowledge about water. Our beers are improving more and more each day; if we keep working we are unstoppable. Thursday, 9 October 2014. Pubs in North-West Wales - The Black Boy Inn. An irresistible impulse to eat and drink. Sunday, 24 May 2015. Marble Old Manchester - Three years on, the final sample. Three years ago I bought three bottles of Old Manchester, Marble Brewery's collaboration with John Keeling from Fuller's. I tasted it then and wondered how it might age. One year on I tried it again. The opportunity arrived when our good friend Nate " Mr Drink'n'Eat. Nolan invited me and two other beer writers, Matt "Total" Curtis who writes at Total Ales. Obvious as soon as the bottle...

So from the village of Tockwith just to the west of York, my mini tour of Yorkshire breweries takes me to Pocklington to the south and east of that city, and the Brass Castle Brewery. This has been an interesting experience, and I’ve got three more beers to try from this small Yorkshire brewery. Can’t wait. On July 14, 2013 in Pale Ale. Enter...

A real treat to be knocking back Camden’s glorious new(ish) Indian Hells Lager as the seductive aroma of boiling hops drifted around us. If you can’t find an issue, you can read it online here. Beer Justice: Reasons to be (Beer) Blogging - Part 8 - to acknowledge when breweries send beer

http://beerjustice.blogspot.com/2015/04/reasons-to-be-beer-blogging-part-8-to.html

Monday, 20 April 2015. Reasons to be (Beer) Blogging - Part 8 - to acknowledge when breweries send beer. Now my blogging mojo is back, hopefully I can share my opinion on new beers as and when they cross my path. Windsor and Eton Brewery and Shepherd Neame have stayed loyal to me and continue to send me great beers. One favourite from last year was from "son of" Windsor and Eton. That is Uprising Brewery. However once opened and poured into a pint glass, after savouring the powerful aroma of tropical fru...

Beersay – unverified, unofficial information gained or acquired from various sources or sauces about beer….probably. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. So, a quiet day at Otter’s Tears (I’m assuming after everyone’s wallets and livers took a battering over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend) allows me at last a chance to recap on what has happened, or at least some of the things I’ve learned and or observed since opening the shop back in December. Week Beginning 13.7.15. July 15, 2015. Another exciting week, which began with making ice-cream without a fridge! We were very lucky to receive a visit from a chemist from NAPP laboratories, who showed us how to investigate a change in materials from liquid to solid by making ice-cream. The children were delighted especially since those who had allergies were also able to join in the fun, by making fruit juice sorbets. Poppy said I really enjoyed making the ice cream because it was exciting and fun!
