Grace-full Thoughts: June 2006
http://cgchs.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_archive.html
Exploring the meaning of human life and our purpose on "this fragile Earth, our island home". Monday, June 05, 2006. Justice . for whom? One of our dear friends had a horrific experience last week, and it breaks my heart. She was riding her bike in a peaceful demonstration with the group called Critical Mass. A movement that promotes bicycle-riding as one solution to the rapidly dwindling availability of petroleum products, and our rather scary dependence on Earth's oil resource. What has happened in tha...

Exploring the meaning of human life and our purpose on "this fragile Earth, our island home". Monday, July 31, 2006. Most of it. I could do without the hot water and plumbing thingies. So what is the latest blip on my radar screen? Is there possibly any better? And taken apart my first efforts so I could keep spinnng something—. Including the dog's hair. Not just any dog, or even. Dog, mind you — I used the hair of the adorable little poodle entrusted to our care by our summer intern (and fabulous ...

Grace-full Thoughts: October 2005
http://cgchs.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html
Exploring the meaning of human life and our purpose on "this fragile Earth, our island home". Sunday, October 23, 2005. So you believe in intelligent design? Asked one of the women. Alarm bells rang in my head as I answered, "I wouldn't use that combination of words, for sure; they are loaded with a particular 'baggage' that I don't wish to carry.". About their efforts, and I cannot trust or believe in a god (or its followers) who condones deceit to establish its validity. I have a jaundiced eye for ...

Regaining my “freedom”? | Discerning Woman
https://suespencer.wordpress.com/2008/05/30/regaining-my-freedom
The monastic journey of a UU Minister. Posted by: Sue Spencer. May 30, 2008. Regaining my “freedom”? A woman younger than I, who for a few years has been struggling to discern her call to religious life, told me once that she had a hard time with the thought of losing her freedom. That probably would have been one of my issues a couple of decades ago, but I’m discovering that my perspective has shifted. I don’t think so. Laquo; From my perch at the library. By: Sr Gerry Joseph. On July 23, 2008. Center f...

The Lady Truck Driver | Discerning Woman
https://suespencer.wordpress.com/2008/07/28/the-lady-truck-driver
The monastic journey of a UU Minister. Posted by: Sue Spencer. July 28, 2008. The Lady Truck Driver. My life of leisure is drawing to a close. As of August 1, I am the Interim Minister of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Danbury, Connecticut, located just north of the city center. I’m feeling rested and excited to begin work! But I psyched myself for the trip, visualizing a smooth, incident-free ride, and it turned out to be fine – even fun! 8221; Then, “Well, good for you! Posted in The Journey.

Exploring the meaning of human life and our purpose on "this fragile Earth, our island home". Sunday, May 28, 2006. News from the Front. Fear not, the raccoon wars rage on. The large flower-pot-type unit over the duck food can was the answer. It worked for three days. I guess in terms of raccoon wars, that's a long time. But in terms of keeping the cost of feeding the ducks at a reasonable level, it's not long enough. At this point, I just. And it has. For three nights, now. Catherine Grace, CHS. It has ...

Grace-full Thoughts: Bob Again
http://cgchs.blogspot.com/2007/02/bob-again.html
Exploring the meaning of human life and our purpose on "this fragile Earth, our island home". Thursday, February 01, 2007. I was missing the point. I finally wised up enough to check out "cat behavior" results on an internet search. Duh. Cats like to play. Fine; I'm happy with a feline companion who sleeps a lot and likes to snuggle. To play. Stalking and catching prey is what cats do, and they need to do it whether they are safely indoors or taking their chances in the wild. Prey, your hand is not.

Grace-full Thoughts: Retreat
http://cgchs.blogspot.com/2007/02/retreat.html
Exploring the meaning of human life and our purpose on "this fragile Earth, our island home". Saturday, February 03, 2007. Today is a quiet day for me; I am "in retreat". At least once a month each sister spends one day in quiet reflection, mixed perhaps with a bit of physical labor to keep the body tuned. Today I finally covered my windows with plastic to keep the cold and wind from stealing heat from the house. A minor bit of work in service of Mother Earth. Ah, blessed retreat . Hopping Hadrian's Wall. Dispatches from the Borderland of the Mind. About J. Barrett Lee. December 21, 2016. December 23, 2016. By J Barrett Lee. On Monday, I received the following from a Presbyterian ministerial intern in Indiana:. Where is the good news that God will come again, and how can God reconcile all those innocent who will suffer in this world how can God really bring justice to all this that satisfies those persecuted? Hopefully this isn’t heresy. Here is my response:. It ain’t pretty. When ...
