BriefThink: What the World Needs Now...

Tuesday, December 29, 2015. What the World Needs Now. I have come across a few disturbing articles on the internet in my time. There is a lot that sucks in the world. I worry especially about our children, and the influences they will or may be exposed to. That's just background for the following insight. It occurred to me that what the world needs is more people to be really good, exceptionally good. And so, what the world needs from ME is to be exceptionally good. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Friday, November 28, 2014. It is only necessary to see God as the original cause of a trial, even if only as wisely and beneficently permitting a trial, rather than seeing the obvious direct cause of the trial: in my case, the issues with my son. To get impatient with the trial (gift) would be like stomping on a wrapped Christmas gift in frustration over being unable to open it. I might damage the gift, and therefore lose forever the blessing intended by the giver. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The Inestim...

Monday, June 10, 2013. The future is a potential, a gift not-yet-given. It could be anything. The past is gone, a gift used up and set aside. The present is the only moment that is real, that matters, because it is the gift that we have Now. And yet, the present so quickly and so easily becomes the past, used up, lost, unavailable, except to some degree in memory. So, we only have a moment in which to live the present moment before it becomes the past, before it is lost to us. Even if we are forced, for ...

Wednesday, January 11, 2017. Futility Closet dot com published a short article concerning the idea that perhaps persons should be trained and licensed before they become parents. On the surface, that might seem to be a good idea. But. Who decides what good parenting is? Bonding and love are so important, especially in the early years, that no training can substitute for that. How well can the state judge one's capacity to bond with and love their child? How well can an institution judge that? We often te...

BriefThink: Empathy vs. Anger
http://briefthink.blogspot.com/2017/01/empathy-vs-anger.html
Tuesday, January 10, 2017. Empathy vs. Anger. We often tend to make judgments without much reflection, without any true empathy, and those judgments can cause us to feel resentment towards the other, leading to anger. But if we hold off on the judgment, and seek instead to sincerely comprehend where the other is coming from, a completely different dynamic can be formed. So, we should stop judging, work to develop empathy, and things should be better for all involved! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Thursday, August 8, 2013. What are we to do? Cardinal O’Malley said:. We must be better people; we must love all people, even those who advocate abortion. It is only if we love them that we will be able to help them discover the sacredness of the life of an unborn child. Only love and mercy will open hearts that have been hardened by the individualism of our age. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). What are we to do? Join us on our journey of relentless love and redemption. And I find it ironic on this level of food, in that, we are one of the most prosperous nations in the world, wallowing in an overabundance of food, an abundance of dietary options, and yet we remain, many of us, unhealthy and unsatisfied. Friday, July 5, 2013. Independence Day," 2013. It didn't feel much like Independence Day, with fireworks and parades scheduled for Saturday, with all the stores open, with our government spying on us, with the health care mandate working to suck the spirit out of religious freedom, with our government supporting all kinds of violence and abuse throughout the world, especially against the most vulnerable through abortion, and the list goes on. God of our fathers, whose almighty hand. Monday, July 1, 2013.

BriefThink: Credit Card Payment is Due
http://briefthink.blogspot.com/2017/01/credit-card-payment-is-due.html
Thursday, January 5, 2017. Credit Card Payment is Due. Yesterday I read an article by a woman whose family lost most of their possessions to a house fire last year. What she had to say was that she, and her family, found that they did not want to replace many of their possessions, that they had found a certain freedom in having less, even to the most mundane: perhaps I can live just fine with three towels. I'm not so sure. In fact, I'm very sure that most of this is more of a burden than a blessing. ...
