History of the White Turpin House. The original patentee was John Reed. White Turpin House - 2009. 1974 Description and Comment:. This is a frame cottage built on brick piers. The front gallery, the columns and railing of which do not appear to be original, is recessed under the front slope of the roof. The Turpins were of Huguenot. Extraction. Solomon Turpin. Had a grant of land in Dorchester County. Maryland in 1757. This deed to Solomon was given by Lord Calvert, brother of Lord Baltimore. Solomon's will was probated in Sussex County. Delaware on February 19, 1776 and showed him to have left four daughters and a son. The daughters were Sarah Turpin Maston, Mary Turpin Clarkson, Rebekah Turpin, and Elizabeth Turpin. The latter two never married. The son, Joseph Turpin. Was born in 1773; Thomas Baynard.

We only rent the house to one party at a time with double occupancy for each of the three bedrooms. Each additional person over 6 is charged $30 a night. However Singles and Couples may rent the downstairs area only, without access to the upstairs. (see rates below). During peak season and special events, the house can be rented for $400 per night, with a minimum stay of two nights. For a list of special events and peak times, please contact us. There is a 10% State Tax and $2.00 City Tax per night.
