Macks on the Move. Saturday, December 24, 2011. As much as Thanksgiving dinners must include pecan and pumpkin pies, Christmas must include cookies! My favorites are Russian Tea Cakes (also known as Mexican wedding cookies or, I'm sure, a number of other names), ginger cookies (big, soft ones, not hard little, thin snaps), and Rugelach. Macks on the Move. Friday, March 25, 2011. These are parsnips. Obviously a root vegetable (meaning the part that you eat is the root, what grows underground), related to the carrot only white-ish in color. It is a bit sweeter than a carrot. And, when cooked, has a texture more like a potato. One of my favorite ways to cook these is with butter and syrup! First, peel them and chop them, just like carrots. So then you turn off the heat and drizzle a tablespoon (or two) of maple syrup over the parsnips.

Macks on the Move. Monday, September 21, 2009. End of summer bounty. As we say goodbye to farm fresh peaches and colorful heirloom tomatoes, we had an end of summer feast! I made a batch of pizza dough and let the kids each roll out their own pizzas and choose their own toppings. Violet's crust was the thickest, topped with tomato sauce, canadian bacon, Green Zebra and Brandywine tomatoes and smoked goat cheese (naturally lactose-free, Violet has come to choose goat cheese as her favorite). Had a room we could all stay in, as well as including a hot breakfast for all of us in the price!
