The greatest WordPress.com site in all the land! China – Shanghai. July 31, 2013. A city with a curious mix of old China, old Europe and new skyscrapers. With over 30 million people, the metro system runs smoothly though it did feel on one journey we were squashed in with all of the city’s inhabitants. The urban planning centre (yes I was nerdy enough to go) had a great model of the city. The Bund is the area about 2km long with old European buildings, you could be in London. The greatest WordPress.com site in all the land! Jordan – Little Petra. August 12, 2013. 20 minutes away from Petra is little Petra, I thought would be a good taster for the main event. On the way we passed an ancient village with houses supposedly over 1000 years old. Arriving at Little Petra, I was struck by how quiet it was with only about 30 tourists in total. The brown shades of rock are very different from what I’m expecting from Petra, though the facades carved out of the rock are.

Landed in Amman after a 5 hour flight from London, via Easyjet which went fine and I seemed to be in the main terminal which isn’t normally guaranteed with Easyjet. Stayed in the airport hotel the first night, first time my bags have been xrayed at a hotel entrance, reminded me of where I was, between warrring nations. Great view of the city from the top. The greatest WordPress.com site in all the land! China – Longsheng. July 30, 2013. We travelled 4 hours by coach to Longsheng and the Rice Terraces. The 20 minute walk up the hill to the hotel tired me out so I sat with a beer looking out over the village and Terraces. Very pleasant. The first thing that hits me is the colours, the shades of pink and purple from the minerals in the rock (iron, magnesium and calcium), the second is the shear size.
