대학교육의 목표는 ‘유능한 직능인’과 ‘교양 있는 지성인’을 양성하는데 있다. 따라서 이상적인 대학교육은 ‘무엇을 할 수 있게 하는’ 전공교육과 ‘하는 일의 의미와 가치를 묻게 하는’ 인문교양교육이 적절한 조화를 이루는 교육임은 두말할 나위가 없다. 그럼에도 불구하고 오늘날 대학교육은 교양교육을 강화한다는 명분하에서도 문학, 사학, 철학 중심의 인문교양교육(liberal arts)보다는 어학이 나 컴퓨터 등과 같은 실용적인 일반교양교육(general education) 중심으로 운영되어 왔다. 그러나 이제 우리 사회가 지식정보화 사회를 넘어 스마트 사회로 진입하면서 오늘날 대학교육에서 창조적 사고력과 도덕성 함양은 교육의 핵심 과제가 되었다. 더욱이 요즘 우리 사회 전반, 즉 정치, 경제, 법, 교육 어디를 봐도 도덕적 위기감 을 느끼지 않을 수 있는 곳이 한 군데도 없다. 배려와 질서, 겸손과 존중은 간 데 없고 거짓과 배신, 탐욕과 극단이 넘쳐흐르고 있다. 를 위해 본 강좌를 개설하였다.
