All Quiet on the Western Front: Sneak Preview | classicreadingclub

https://classicreadingclub.wordpress.com/2014/09/28/all-quiet-on-the-western-front-sneak-preview

Reading twelve classic books in one year. All Quiet on the Western Front: Sneak Preview. Asymp; Leave a comment. The film version has been tempting me on itv player for a few weeks now. Today the ‘2 days left’ tag was enough to get me to succumb. I felt a bit like I was cheating but I’m glad I watched it. Although it was terribly sad, the horror is balanced by humour. By seeing that contrast, I’m less daunted by the prospect of reading it in November. View all posts by classicgems ». Larr; Previous post.

Claire on Book FOMO | classicreadingclub

https://classicreadingclub.wordpress.com/2014/07/14/claire-on-book-fomo

Reading twelve classic books in one year. Claire on Book FOMO. Asymp; 3 Comments. So yes. I am crap at keeping to a specified reading list. All of the books we have chosen I really want to read, however anyone who knows me well can probably attest to my wandering attention span. Rest assured – I’m back into this challenge now, and further updates will be coming. After all I was really excited about every title we put on our list! Have you ever had book FOMO? (The Return of) The Return of the Native | classicreadingclub

https://classicreadingclub.wordpress.com/2014/08/20/the-return-of-the-return-of-the-native

Reading twelve classic books in one year. The Return of) The Return of the Native. Asymp; Leave a comment. But he came across as a nice person. According to George Woodcock’s afterpiece in my copy of the novel, Hardy amended the ending of Return of the Native which is why there is an unusually happy(ish) ending after the traditional Hardy depressing one. It is a good novel. I highly recommend it. Especially as a summer’s read. It is also the lightest read we’ve had so far. A bookworm, in a library.

The list! | classicreadingclub

https://classicreadingclub.wordpress.com/the-list

Reading twelve classic books in one year. Gradually we are getting a list of books together. But to date, we have earmarked:. Catcher in the Rye – JD Salinger. The Scarlet Letter – Nathaniel Hawthorne. Because… as Gemma says below: 1) It is mentioned in an episode of Downton Abbey by Mrs Hughes. East of Eden – John Steinbeck. Sophie’s Choice – William Styron. Oscar and Lucinda Peter Carey. Because it’s a modern classic by a prominent Australian author because Claire is from Australia! We need more books!

Reading twelve classic books in one year. Sophie’s Choice – initial thoughts. Asymp; Leave a comment. I’m about a hundred pages in now, so thought it time for my initial thoughts on the book. I found this book immensely difficult to get into. Just the first twenty pages felt like a drag and took me a long long time to read – I didn’t really want to pick it up. It felt like fifty pages before Sophie was even mentioned. I was getting a bit frustrated with it – seriously! Get to the point! I was very excite...
