Writing About Addiction, Treatment and Recovery. Addiction Impacts Everyone in the Family. August 27, 2015. September 4, 2016. Stretch of the imagination, but in the minds of the 11- and 15-year old, his situation certainly didn’t help matters. James, on the other hand, was supportive of his older brother during the first 1 1/2 years. If Jon was on the phone, he came running. When the opportunity came to visit, despite hours of therapy and instructions he’d have to endure, James went. He held...Last Sund...

Writing About Addiction, Treatment and Recovery. March 25, 2016. On March 21, I provided the following testimony before the NJ Assembly Budget Committee. I’m a mother and an NCADD advocacy leader. For me, recovery. Means holding onto the hope that my son will outlive his addiction. With God’s grace, he will turn 20 in a matter of weeks and today, has 6 months and 1 week without alcohol or drugs, proving that recovery. My horror began 4-years ago; he was 16. We know that people suffering from addiction.

Writing About Addiction, Treatment and Recovery. March 17, 2016. September 4, 2016. It was still morning when my co-worker informed me that my cell phone was ringing – albeit on vibrate – for the 3rd time in succession. His words hung in the air as I did the mental math: James was in school; Kinsey worked late and was probably sleeping; Jon was in rehab. His discharge date and entry into an Oxford House. Imminent. Who could be calling? I hope he didn’t get high. I heard his version of the story; how he, ...

Writing About Addiction, Treatment and Recovery. May 15, 2015. May 15, 2015. Jon wanted to meet for lunch as a belated Mother’s Day observance. The instant his car pulled onto the driveway, I knew our date was a manipulation; restaurants may have dress codes, but most people don’t bring everything. They own to lunch. Think already as May 27th will mark the third anniversary on this road that doesn’t have a destination in sight. Last month a twenty-something year old guy crashed our NCADD. Could be good &...

Writing About Addiction, Treatment and Recovery. Hitting Bottom: The Enabler’s had Enough. April 14, 2015. September 4, 2016. Monday Night Football was playing on tv, but I was restless and agitated because Jon still wasn’t home. His class had ended at 7:30 pm. Where was he? He’d never miss the Steelers. My nerves were in the pit of my stomach. The Jon I knew was gone. I text him: DO NOT come home tonight. Sleep wherever you are. I need the car by 7. Why are you asking about the car? 8221; My teeth are c...

Finally, Every Dimension of the Beach. Explosive, Vivid, Ironic: Charlotte Filbert in Full Color. Her work combines an innocence and childlike joie-de-vivre with the subtlety and sophistication. Of the high-profile statement-makers of the art world. Her palette mixes the adobe-bred array of the New Mexican mesas with the tempered depth of the Northeast. Her work spans the highbrow galleries to the ‘hood. Some of her work is flat-out heartbreakingly beautiful. Granted Hamptons Hustle this recent interview.
