Riding Mountain National Park. Our main study site is located on the University of Alberta Kinsella Research Ranch in Kinsella, Alberta (approximately 150 km east-southeast of Edmonton). This site is in the Aspen Parkland ecoregion. The Saskatchewan study site is located in a PFRA community pasture approximately 130 km south of Regina, near Ceylon. This area is a dry mixed grassland. Rangelands support the majority of Canada's 4 million head of cattle. Unfortunately, of the 22 million hectares of land dedicated to range and forage production, less than half is rated as being in "good" condition. This is primarily due to overgrazing.
